About the Thermolysis of K2HAlF6The thermolysis of K2HAlF6 was investigated by x-ray diffraction and IR-spectroscopy in a temperature range of 20 - 600°C. In consequence of liberating HF above 50°C a condensation process takes place leading to the formation of KAlF4 · 0.5 H2O. The structure of the half-hydrate is similar to that of KAlF4 which can be concluded from the comparison of i.r. spectra and lattice dimensions. High temperature x-ray investigations showed that the dehydration to KAlF4 takes place in two steps. The specialities of the high temperature form of KAlF4 are discussed. Above 400°C KAlF4 is hydrolysed leading to K3AlF6 and a cubic HT-phase of unknown composition which changes to the tetragonal form and to Al2O3 at room temperature.
Notizen:
