Notes: Abstract Electrical and dielectrical properties of poly(bis(β-phenoxyethoxy)phosphazene) (I) and its complexes with various content ratios of AgSO3CF3 to monomeric unit (0.25/1 (II) and 0.5/1 (III) in molar ratio) were investigated.Dc conductivity of respective samples at 18 °C were 6.1×10−12, 4.4×10−9, and 7.1×10−8 S/m.Dc conduction was considered to be due to ion hopping. Charge mobility ranged from 3×10−12 to 6× 10−11 m2/Vs depending on the applied field in sample II. In sample I, a tanδ peak was found which can be ascribed to molecular relaxation of main chains. The peak vanished upon introducing AgSO3 CF3. Temperature dependence of total conductivity (σ T ) measured byac method in the temperature range between −150 °C and 50 °C showed several peaks at the temperatures corresponding to the peak temperatures of tanδ. Total conductivities of respective samples at 100 kHz were 4.9×10−7 (69 °C), 1.7×10−4 (45 °C), and 1.5×10−4(40°C)S/m.

Notes: Abstract A non-destructive method for determining the amount of actinoids has been developed. The method is based on thermal neutron coincidence counting and employs a selective detection of neutrons resulting from the spontaneous fission of actinoids. The detection system is described in detail and the measurement results of244Cm as an example are presented. The results show that the measured fission rate of244Cm is consistent with the fission rate calculated from ENDF/B-V data and that the amount of244Cm can be determined within about 5% accuracy even in the presence of a large amount of actinoids, for example, up to 2.6·106, 3.6·104, or 1.6·103 times in the mass ratio of239Pu,241Am, or240Pu to244Cm, respectively.

Notes: Abstract A new bioreactor (liquid-gas two-phase system) was devised for berberine-secreting Thalictrum minus cells immobilized in calcium alginate beads, which were alternately soaked in medium, and exposed to air. The highest yield of berberine (875 mg/l) was obtained by setting the cycle of medium supply and air supply for 30 seconds and 2 minutes, respectively, during a culture period of 30 days. Under such conditions of batch culture, the berberine productivity of immobilized cells was as high as that of freely suspended cells. Furthermore, the rate of berberine production by immobilized cells remained constant at a high value (50 mg/l/day) for a period of 60 days of semi-continuous culture achieved by renewal of medium at intervals of 10 days.

Notes: Abstract Mössbauer spectra at 5 K and magnetic susceptibilities from 4 K to room temperature have been measured on samples of anhydrous ruthenium trichlorides. The Mössbauer spectrum of α-RuCl3 shows a magnetic hyperfine splitting in agreement with the result of magnetic susceptibility measurement, while β-RuCl3 is found to be paramagnetic down to 4 K.
