Abstract Surface analytical methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to study the surface properties of several noble metal casting alloys which are used as core materials for fixed prosthodontics. In particular surface morphology, surface segregation, and oxide formation were studied as the key parameters influencing the adhesion properties between alloy and ceramic veneer.
