Notes: Causative gene defects have not been demonstrated in the majority of nonbullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (NBCIE) cases. The purpose of this study was to further elucidate the pathogenesis of NBCIE. Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural observations, transglutaminase activity assays and sequencing of TGM1 were performed in five patients from four NBCIE families. Transglutaminase 1 (TGase 1), involucrin and loricrin expression and in situ transglutaminase activity were present in all of the cases. Ultrastructurally, two cases out of five showed incomplete thickening of the cornified cell envelope (CCE) during keratinization and the other three exhibited abnormal lipid droplets in the cornified cells and malformed lamellar granules. No TGM1 mutation was found in any of the four families by direct sequence analysis. NBCIE cases with normal TGase 1 seemed to have two distinct patterns of abnormality, one with abnormal lipid droplets and malformed lamellar granules and the other with defective CCE formation.

Notes: Background : It has been reported that inhibitors of gastric acid secretion prevent bleeding after endoscopic mucosal resection for mucosal gastric neoplasm. However, uncertain whether an histamine2-receptor antagonist or proton-pump inhibitor is more effective.Aim : To evaluate prospectively the effectiveness of famotidine or omeprazole for ulcer management after endoscopic mucosal resection. Methods : From July 2003 to October 2004, 57 patients were randomly assigned to famotidine or omeprazole for the management of endoscopic mucosal resection. Both drugs were given intravenously for the first 2 days, thereafter by mouth. The bleeding rates after endoscopic mucosal resection, the effects on the healing of endoscopic mucosal resection-induced ulceration, and cost-benefits were compared. Results : Twenty-eight patients received famotidine and 29 received omeprazole. No significant difference was observed between the two groups in patient characteristics. The bleeding rates after endoscopic mucosal resection were not significantly different (18% vs. 14%) between the groups. Similarly, no differences were seen in the size of the endoscopic mucosal resection-induced ulceration at 1, 30 and 60 days after resection between groups. The total costs of anti-secretory agents demonstrated a significant cost-benefit to those treated with famotidine (10 420 yen vs. 17 782 yen). Conclusions : Famotidine is suggested as a better alternative to omeprazole for the management of endoscopic mucosal resection, as it showed a clear cost-benefit, and the healing results after endoscopic mucosal resection were similar for the two treatment strategies.

Notes: [Auszug] Zinc-?2-glycoprotein was isolated as described earlier4 from large pools of outdated normal plasma collected in the New England area. This glycoprotein appeared homogeneous on ultracentrifugation, electrophoresis, chromatography, and JSTH2-terminal amino-acid analysis. Its extinction coefficient ...

Notes: For flexible 3D positioning of a complex 3D mechanism, it is needed to measure 3D displacement of the end-effecter of the mechanism in high precision and by non-contact method. It was common to use plural sensors or scales together to measure the 3D displacement. However, it is difficult to calibrate the sensitivities of the plural sensors or scales. A novel 3D displacement measurement is proposed using an optical system in which lens focuses are collected at the center of the sphere, which has been used for the radius measurement of the sphere. Instead of facing in the XY direction that has high sensitivity, new ideas are necessary for the measurement in the Z direction ofthe optics where focuses are collected at the center of the sphere. The displacement in the XYdirection and the one in the Z direction can be measured at the same time by using a ring-shaped laserbeam instead of a simple ray

Notes: Laser scattering characteristics of typical CMP-induced defects such as particles and microscratches with the size of sub-micron order are investigated using a developed automated scattered light measurement system. The measurement system has an ability to detect three-dimensional distribution of scattered light from the defects with high sensitivity. The angular distributions of scattered light from the standard PSL (Polystyrene latex) spheres and microscratches reveal that scattering characteristics of microscratches are quite different from those of Particles. The scattered light from the PSL sphere is detected mainly ahead. In contrast, the scattered light from the microscratches only exists in the direction perpendicular to its length dimension at an oblique incidence maintaining the sheet-shaped pattern, even if its orientation relative to the incident direction is changed. Optical arrangement for defect detection and classification is suggested based on the experimental results

Notes: In order to reduce and control yield loss in the fabrication process of next generation ULSI devices, nano-defects inspection technique for polished Silicon (Si) wafer surface becomes more essential. This paper discusses a new optical nano-defects detection method, which is applicable to silicon wafer surface inspection for next-generation semiconductors. In our proposed method, the evanescent light is emerged on the wafer surface with total internal reflection (TIR) of infrared (IR) laser at the Si-air interface. By scanning the surface where the evanescent light is emerging with a very shaped fiber probe, it enables to detect nanometer scale defects in the vicinity of Si wafer surface without diffraction limit to resolution. To experimentally verify the feasibility of this method, an evanescent light measurement system was developed and several fundamental experiments were performed. The results show that the proposed Si wafer microdefects detection method can detect the microdefect with 10nm scale on and beneath the surface based on evanescent light distribution

Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.
