Notes: Mesoporous silica particles doped with iron was prepared with a novel method. Nitrogenadsorption-desorption test indicated that the BET surface area decreased with the increasing of irondoping amount. Small-angle X-ray diffractometry (SAXD) analysis showed that more iron dopantgave rise to less orderly structured product. FITRanalysis were all carried out to study the ironvalent and distribution state in the as-made mesoporous silica particles

Notes: To avoid microcrack formation caused by the addition of heterogeneous sintering aids, nanohydroxyapatite powder was prepared by precipitation method and doped into commercialhydroxyapatite powders as homogeneous sintering aid. Gelcasting method was used to prepare thesehydroxyapatite green bodies. Densification of the blended powder was performed by pressurelesssintering in air atmosphere at the range 1100℃ to 1400℃ for 2h, with a step size of 50℃. Theresults showed that the nano particle can greatly improve the densification process of the greenbodies, and at 1300℃, which is the highest sintering temperature for hydroxyapatite withoutdecomposition in the air atmosphere, the relative sintering densities of the doped green bodies and theones without doping were 93.99% and 83.13% respectively

Notes: The nanocomposite coatings were prepared on the surface of PVC substrate using spinningtechnique with attempts of introducing nanosized iron oxide particles with different morphology into theorganic-inorganic hybrid matrices. The hybrid matrices were derived from 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(GLYMO) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) with a process of hydrolyzing and condensation.Nanosized iron oxide particles were synthesized by hydrolysis of FeCl3 solution at different pH value anddifferent temperature. The effects of different additions on nanomechanical properties of thenanocomposite coatings were investigated using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electronmicroscopy (TEM) and MTS Nano Indenter XP system. It was found that the acicular α-FeOOH andspherical α-Fe2O3 particles were synthesized, both of them dispersed homogeneously. Nanoindentationand nanoscratch behaviors of the nanoindenter system showed that both of the nanocomposite coatingsreinforced the nanomechanical properties of the PVC obviously. Especially, the contribution of acicularα-FeOOH was more remarkable than the spherical α-Fe2O3

Notes: Gallium-doped zinc oxide nanopowders with high electrical conductivity were prepared bycalcining the precursor synthesized from ZnSO4·7H2O, GaCl3 and NH4HCO3 by co-precipitation method. The obtained samples were characterized by FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS and BET techniques. Theprecursor particles were in the shape of sheet-like with size about several hundred nanometers. Theelectrically conductive zinc oxide particles, in the shape of sphere-like, were about 10~40 nm with lowagglomeration, and the specific surface area was 28.7 m2/g. XRD and XPS results showed that all thedoped Ga exists as the substitution form of Ga•Znin the ZnO system. The volume resistivity of the productwas as lower as 4.5 :·cm

Notes: Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles were synthesized in the presence of two kinds of acidic aminoacids in order to investigate the effects of acidic amino acids on the morphology of hydroxyapatiteobtained by homogeneous precipitation and hydrothermal treating. The results of X-ray diffractionanalysis and microphotographs of transmission electron microscope showed that the morphology ofhydroxyapatite nanoparticles changed significantly only with aspartic acid. Hydroxyapatite synthesizedwith aspartic acid showed smooth flake-like morphology at pH= 11 and flake-like morphology withstripes at pH= 8. However, hydroxyapatite synthesized in the present of glutamic acid showed rod-likemorphology at both pH values. Variation in the morphology of nanoparticles could be consistent with thedifference in the affinity of amino acids binding at the hydroxyapatite crystal surface. The adsorptionprocess was revealed by computer simulation of molecular mechanics using energy minimizing method

Notes: Bonelike apatite coating was formed on poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffolds and poly(glycolic acid)(PGA) scaffolds in 24 hours through an accelerated biomimetic process. The ion concentrations in thesimulated body fluid (SBF) were nearly 5 times of those in human blood plasma. The apatite formedin 5SBF was similar in morphology and composition to that formed in the classical biomimeticprocess employing SBF or 1.5SBF, and similar to that of natural bone. To facilitate coating intoscaffolds, the flowing condition was introduced into the accelerated biomimetic process. It was foundthat the accelerated biomimetic process performed in the flowing condition yielded more uniformspatial distribution of apatite particles than that in the regular shaking condition

Notes: Hollow microspheres of nickel hydroxide and nickel oxide were prepared withas-synthesized PS/Ni(OH)2 composite particles by sacrificing core method, respectively. Thecomposite particles were synthesized by deposition of the Ni(OH)2 nanoflakelets formed by thehydrolysis of nickel nitrate onto the surfaces of polystyrene (PS) particles. The effects of differentconcentrations of nickel salt and urea on the deposition of the nanoflakelets of nickel hydroxidewere studied. It was found that the uniform nanoflakelets were deposited on the polystyreneparticles under the conditions of the 4╳10-3 M nickel salt and 0.667M urea. Compared with thedirectly calcinating of composite particles, Integral hollow microspheres of nickel hydroxide wereattained by removal of cores of polystyrene in composite particles with toluene and NiO hollowmicrospheres by calcinating of these Ni(OH)2 hollow spheres in oven at 600℃ for 2h

Notes: Asymmetric rolling has been considered as a possible way to obtain severe plasticdeformation (SPD) since it will give an extra shear deformation to the processed materials duringrolling. Previous researches have confirmed such a shear deformation. Very recently, the method ofinserting-block is used to characterize the shear deformation through direct observation, but whenthe reduction is more than 70%, the lineation scratched on the side face of internal mark becomesvague and illegible. In order to directly observe the shear deformation of metallic material withlarge reduction, the internal mark method is employed in this research and asymmetric rolling wasperformed with pure aluminum and iron at room temperature. In severe plastic deformation, theshear deformation caused by asymmetric rolling was clearly observed and measured throughemploying internal mark method. Remarkable extra shear deformation during asymmetric rollingwas confirmed. Very high equivalent strains were achieved when sheet samples wereasymmetrically rolled to high reduction ratio. These strain values fall into the range of SPD

Notes: With the goal to find hydride electrodes, the phase structure and electrochemicalcharacteristics of the as-cast and ball-milled La2Mg17 alloy with Ni additions were investigated. The addition of Ni was found to be an important factor for the earlier transformation to an amorphous alloy. When the addition of Ni reached 100 wt%, the ball-milled La2Mg17 alloy transformed into a homogeneous phase with high discharge capacity of 1060 mAh/g(La2Mg17) [530 mAh/g(La2Mg17+100 wt% Ni)]. The exchange current density and the kinetics of the amorphousalloy were also found experimentally noticeably higher than those of corresponding crystal alloy

Notes: The root mean square successive difference (RMSSD) in heart period series is a time domain measure of heart period variability. The RMSSD is sensitive to high-frequency heart period fluctuations in the respiratory frequency range and has been used as an index of vagal cardiac control. By transfer function simulations, the RMSSD statistic is shown to represent a high-pass filter that effectively captures respiratory sinus arrhythmia but also passes lower frequency fluctuations that can include sympathetic influences. These simulations, together with analysis of actual heart period series, reveal that the RMSSD is biased by basal heart period. Although between-subjects levels of RMSSD covary highly with spectral estimates of high-frequency variability, within-subject RMSSD change scores account for only 50–60% of the variance in spectral estimates. The present findings raise caveats in the applications and interpretation of the RMSSD statistic.
