Notes: Very few articles have aimed to illuminate the clinical profiles of vitiligo in China. We conducted this retrospective survey involving 4118 outpatients with vitiligo in order to identify the differences among various clinical types of vitiligo and their associated disorders. Completed questionnaires (3742) were validated and analysed. Of this large cohort, 1565 (41.8%) individuals presented vitiligo vulgaris, followed by focal, segmental, acrofacial, and universal, in that order. The mean age of vitiligo onset was 18.88 years. More than 60% of the patients were affected before 20 years of age. Patients with segmental vitiligo were affected earlier than those with other types of vitiligo (15.55 years; (P 〈 0.001). More than 74% of the patients presented with focal vitiligo at onset. After 3–5 years, 99% of active vitiligo was worse and shifted from one clinical type to another. However, there was no transformation between acrofacial vitiligo and segmental vitiligo. Compared with the general population, the patients with vitiligo were more likely to be affected by rheumatoid arthritis (P 〈 0.01), ichthyosis (P 〈 0.01), chronic urticaria (P 〈 0.01), or alopecia areata (P 〈 0.01).

Notes: 1. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that, even in the absence of prior ischaemia, 2,3-butanedione monoxime (BDM), an inhibitor of contraction at the actin–myosin level, could produce the postischaemic dysfunction characteristic of stunned myocardium. 2,3-Butanedione monoxime was injected directly into the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) before and again after myocardial stunning produced by 15 min occlusion of the LAD followed by 30 min reperfusion.2. Regional myocardial force, segment shortening and regional work were measured in both the LAD-perfused area and the area perfused by the circumflex coronary artery, which served as a control area. Regional dysfunction produced by BDM injection or ischaemia–reperfusion was assessed quantitatively by five parameters: end-diastolic length (EDL), shortening onset delay (delay), systolic bulge (bulge), end-shortening time delay (EST) and tail work ratio (TWR).3. It was found that injection of BDM into the LAD caused dyskinesis similar to that caused by occlusion–reperfusion. Both displayed elevated EDL and marked increases in delay, bulge, EST and TWR; these parameters were significantly higher in the dyskinesis caused by BDM injection. Despite dysfunctional fibre shortening, intracoronary BDM injection did not reduce regional force.4. Thus, BDM can elicit changes similar to those characteristic of postischaemic dysfunction. Because contractility was not impaired, dysfunction was apparently caused by disrupting the association between contractile force and muscle motion.

Notes: Aims:  To investigate the role of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and its downstream cytokine cascade in necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).Methods and results:  The expression of MIF mRNA and protein in NEC guts was assayed by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry, respectively. Concentrations of MIF, interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 in the serum and in the supernatant of macrophage cultures were examined by ELISA. Increased expression of MIF mRNA and protein was observed in the NEC guts, mainly in the infiltrating macrophages in the mucosa and submucosal layers. Up-regulation of MIF was associated with the accumulation of macrophages and T cells. In addition, serum levels of MIF, IL-6 and IL-8 in NEC patients during the acute stage of the disease were significantly increased. The expression of MIF decreased both locally and systemically after the disease was resolved. MIF was also found to increase the secretion of IL-6 and IL-8 by macrophages isolated from healthy individuals in vitro in NEC.Conclusions:  MIF acts by stimulating macrophage production of IL-6 and IL-8. This further aggravates the inflammatory process by increasing the infiltration of neutrophils and activating inflammatory cells. The results of this study suggest that MIF plays an important role in the pathogenesis of NEC and may serve as a target for therapeutic intervention in NEC.

Notes: A simple method capable of producing uniform, large-area cone arrays of carbon filmswas found in a planar inductively coupled RF plasma source. The technique employs a DC or RFbias to substrate holder. Si substrates were mechanically pretreated using diamond paste.Cone-shaped carbon crystals preferentially nucleate and grow on the scratches using relatively lowbias. Variation of the depositing conditions enables control of the cone density, geometry, andheight. The cone arrays are believed to can significantly improve the field emission properties andhave a tempting perspective in the microelectromechanical system (MEMS)

Notes: High-energy synchrotron diffraction offers great potential for experimental study ofrecrystallization kinetics. A fine experimental design to study the recrystallization mechanism ofInterstitial Free (IF) steel was implemented in this work. In-situ annealing process of cold-rolled IFsteel with 80% reduction was observed using high-energy X-ray diffraction. Results show that, thediffraction intensity of {001}〈110〉 and {112}〈110〉 belong to α-fiber texture component decreasedwith the annealing temperature increased while {111}〈110〉 did nearly not change and {111}〈112〉increased; the FMTH decreasing and d-space changing with annealing temperature increasingindicated that the residual stress relaxed completely during recovery

Notes: The microstructure characters of pure Iron during cold rolling were studied by HEXD(high-energy x-ray diffraction). The experimental result shows that the Debby ring of HEXD beforecold rolling is discrete and very strong, the discrete diffraction points become continue and smoothwith the increase of cold rolling reduction. The {001}〈110〉 textures transform to the {001}〈uvw〉texture after cold rolling, in this process the grains divisional are analyzed by the HEXD result
