    Notes: We have determined the diffusion constants of oxygen molecule (DO2) in near- and supercritical water (the SPCE model) over the wide density region by molecular dynamics simulations. Anomalous temperature dependence of DO2 has been observed: DO2 decreases with increasing temperature from 647 to 773 K at the 115 and 217 kg m−3. The memory function for the friction on the diffusion shows that DO2 is mainly dominated by the binary part of the friction, which is closely related to the contact value of the radical distribution function between oxygen and water. This value decreases with decreasing the temperature from 773 to 647 K, which is a main reason of the peculiar temperature dependence of DO2. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Although the mechanical compression of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which could be caused by bruxism, would probably result in a slight change of the occlusal relationship, the effect of clenching in the eccentric mandibular position on the occlusal contact has not yet been clarified. This study aimed to investigate the effect of eccentric clenching on bilateral condylar position and thus to estimate any change of occlusal contact. Before and after voluntary clenching, with one third of the maximal voluntary clenching force, for 3 min at the canine edge-to-edge position, vertical deviation of the bilateral condyles was measured at the 1 mm open mandibular position. This was regulated by the three-dimensional position of the anterior reference point which stands for the incisor point. The mean vertical displacement of the highly deviated side of the condyle was 141±55 μm, and the calculated mean displacement of the mandibular first molar region of the highly deviated side was 65±27 μm. From the results of this study, it was revealed that the eccentric clenching gave rise to three-dimensional deviation of the mandible even when the mandible was in the vicinity of the rest position.

    Notes: Abstract  The Tm-2 gene and its alleles conferring tomato mosaic virus resistance in tomato originate from Lycopersicon peruvianum, a wild relative of tomato. DNA fragments of several RAPD markers tightly linked with the Tm-2 locus in tomato were successfully cloned and sequenced. Subsequently, the 24-mer oligonucleotide primer pairs of the SCAR markers corresponding to the RAPD markers were designed based on the 5’-endmost sequences. A fragment of the same size as that of a SCAR marker was amplified in the ToMV-susceptible tomato line with no Tm-2, but the digests of the PCR fragments by AccI exhibited polymorphism in fragment length between the two lines. We chose three SCAR markers and three RAPD markers tightly linked with the Tm-2 locus, and examined whether the same-sized fragments corresponding to these markers were also present in three other lines carrying Tm-2a or one of the other Tm-2 alleles. The fragments corresponding to the three SCAR markers were present in all of the three lines, but the other markers (three RAPDs ) were absent in one or two lines, suggesting that the three SCAR markers are closer to Tm-2 than the other markers. Comparison of the nucleotide sequences of these fragments revealed that they are all homologous to the corresponding SCAR markers.
