    Notizen: The injection of point defects into the silicon substrate consecutive to a solid state reaction between nickel and silicon was studied by transmission electron microscopy. By observation and determination of the density and size of interstitial type dislocation loops in the substrate at the different steps of the reaction, we could estimate that one interstitial is injected per 5000 nickel atoms. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: The electrical properties of dense nanocrystalline TiO2 ceramics with an average grain size of 35 nm were investigated by impedance spectroscopy and compared with a coarsened material with micron size grains. The nanocrystalline ceramics show an uncommon domain of ionic conductivity at high oxygen pressures and a steep increase of electronic conductivity at low oxygen pressures. These results are discussed in terms of defect chemical models. The enthalpy of reduction of the nanocrystalline TiO2 was deduced to be significantly lower than that of the coarsened material. This may be related to lower defect formation energies at interface sites. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: Abstract Electrical properties of two-phase mixtures of copper(I) bromidewith titanium dioxide are investigated by impedance spectroscopy coupledwith X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. An increase ofconductivity of more than an order of magnitude with respect to purecopper(I) bromide is detected in the extrinsic domain. The results can beinterpreted in the framework of the brick-layer space charge model. Theimportance of OH groups on the surface of titania particles as preferredsites for internal adsorption of copper ions is confirmed. A maximum effecton conductivity is revealed for about 15 mol% of second phase andrelated to the microstructure of the composites.

It is shown that a space charge layer model is able to describe the main experimental results for the electrochemical interface copper(I) halide-copper and for the phase boundary copper(I) halide-refractory oxide (alumina, titania).

    Notizen: Abstract The influence of size dispersion of CuBr grains on the experimentally observed conductivity enhancement in CuBr-TiO2 composites is investigated. Using an extension of a random resistor network model recently introduced, we show that a bimodal size distribution can be simulated using a mean size value. Furthermore, we develop an electric breakdown model to simulate dendritic decomposition structures observed near the copper electrodes when a certain voltage is applied to thin CuBr films. Preliminary results for homogeneous systems without conductivity gradient are presented.
