    Notizen: Abstract An experimental study is reported of the influence of temperature (T), electric field polarity (±E), as well as of changes in the electrode/insulator/superconductor (E/I/S) measuring system on the field effect in the ceramic (BiPb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox. It has been established that at 77 K and for E⩾60 MV/m the critical current I c and conductivity of the sample increase for I〉I c, irrespective of the field polarity. For lower fields and a negative electrode potential the conductivity in an electric field may decrease. The field effect decreases with increasing temperature, to practically vanish near T c where the sample is still in superconducting state. Experiments carried out with more complex systems E/I/M/I/S and E/I/M/S (M stands for a metallic foil) support the conclusion that it is the external electric field that is responsible for the observed effects.

    Notizen: Abstract An experimental study is reported of the effect of an electric field E⩽120 MV/m and of temperature T on the critical current I c and I-V characteristics of yttrium-based high-T c superconducting ceramics. The materials studied were copper-deficient ceramics, YBa2Cu3−x Oy (D samples), and YBa2Cu3−x Oy/Agx ceramics [S samples with silver present in amounts equal to the copper deficiency (0⩽x⩽0.4)]. It has been established that in D samples at 77 K, the electric field increases I c and reduces substantially R for I〉I c, whereas in S samples no field effect is observed. Measurements of the I c(T) dependence near the critical temperature showed that they can be described for all samples by a relation of the type I c =const(1−T/T c )α, where α≈1 for the D samples, and α≈2 for the S samples. The results obtained suggest that the electric-field effect correlates with the existence in the ceramic of SIS-type weak links at grain boundaries.

    Notizen: Abstract The effect of γ irradiation on the mechanical characteristics and dislocation structure of slip bands in LiF crystals is studied at doses D⩽7.3×108 R. Irradiation causes a substantial increase (up to a factor of 30) in the yield stress τ y of the crystals, with τ y ∝ D 0.4 in the first approximation. The deformation shear increases in the slip bands of irradiated crystals, as do the densities of the screw and edge dislocation components, while the dislocation mean free paths decrease. Irradiation also raises the probability of twinning cross slip for screw dislocations. The observed effects are assumed to be related to the formation of a different kind of defects in the irradiated crystals, primarily clusters of implanted atoms.

    Notizen: Abstract Some YBCO ceramics have been found to exhibit hysteresis of the current/voltage, I/V, characteristics, which reveals at a certain current If greater than critical current Ic a transition with switch from one branch of the I/V curve to another. In present work, the influence of an electric field at 77 K on hysteresis of I/V curves of ceramic YBCO/Ag and YBCO after hydrogen treatment has been studied. It was established that in strong electric field (120 MV/m) the conductivity increases at current I〉Ic, the field effect being observed only in the upper branch of hysteresis loop. The electric field effect in YBCO after hydrogen treatment is reversible. The observed effects are assumed to be associated with a change of grain boundary weak links from S/I/S-to S/N/S-type in the course of hydrogen treatment or addition of silver into ceramics.
