Notizen: Acid hydrolysis of dried fodder's yeast Candida utilis was studied by a central composite design taking into account three independent variables: temperature (105–165C), processing time (30–70 min) and HCl concentration (7.5–17.5%). Response variables were: color, dry matter solubilization and amino nitrogen. Temperature was the most significant variable followed by acid concentration and processing time. Response surfaces were generated from fitted polynomials. Higher temperatures to prevent amino nitrogen degradation were not investigated. As different effects were found for color development and amino nitrogen, a combined function was tested which yields the behavior of all responses simultaneously. The best conditions were: 150C, 15% HCl and 40 min. After neutralization with 6N NaOH and centrifugation, the raw sauce was supplemented with 12% NaCl, 0.1% monosodium glutamate, 2% vinegar and 0.1% sodium benzoate and evaluated by sensory analysis for eight distinct attributes. Imitation sauce from yeast was at least as good as commercial hydrolyzed soybean sauce.

Notizen: Abstract  In vivo intestinal absorption of L-leucine is significantly decreased by the presence of lindane (0.3, 0.2 and 0.1 mM) in perfusion solution (in situ lindane treatment) for 5 min. The inhibitory effect is earlier when lindane concentration is higher, and it is irreversible. There are no changes in D-galactose absorption when lindane (0.3 and 0.2 mM) is perfused for 5 min, but a significant decrease is observed if pesticide is perfused for 10 min at 0.3 mM concentration. Subcutaneous lindane treatment at a dose of 68.76 μmol/kg over 7 days does not alter D-galactose and L-leucine absorption. In situ lindane treatment (0.3, 0.2 and 0.1 mM) induces a significant decrease in basolateral (Na+-K+)-ATPase activity. In contrast, systemic lindane treatment (s.c. injection) at doses of 34.38 and 68.76 μmol/kg over 7 days does not alter this enzyme activity, although a significant decrease is observed in rats injected s.c. with 68.76 μmol/kg lindane over 15 days.

Notizen: Abstract. Perineurioma is an extremely rare benign tumor of the peripheral nervous system composed exclusively of perineurial cells. Imaging findings of this tumor are non-specific and the diagnosis is based on histologic studies. We report a case of perineurioma of the kidney in a 7-year-old girl discovered incidentally during the evaluation of a urinary tract infection. This is the first case of renal perineurioma reported in a child. We present the ultrasound and computed tomography findings of this histologically confirmed neoplasm.

Notizen: Abstract Although opportunistic infections after bone marrow transplantation (BMT) are very common, only five cases ofPseudallescheria boydii infection have been reported in the literature, two of which were autopsy findings. A case ofScedosporium apiospermum infection after BMT, treated initially with amphotericin B (total dose of 2.5 g) and then with itraconazole (for 25 days), is reported here. When the patient failed to improve,Scedosporium apiospermum pneumonia was diagnosed and therapy was changed. The patient was treated successfully with miconazole (600 mg/8h for 32 days) and ketoconazole (200 mg/8h for 7 days) plus surgery.
