    Notes: Abstract We report a case of transient neonatal neutropenia due to a maternal iso-immunization against a non polymorphic region of the glycosylphosphatidylinositollinked Fc receptor type III (CD16) on granulocytes. The mother's granulocytes were typed NA1-negative, NA2-negative and CD16-negative with human and monoclonal antibodies whereas her lymphocytes express the CD16 molecule. Expression of other markers were comparable to the controls. Flow cytometric analysis showed that maternal antibody recognized the granulocytes but not the lymphocytes from blood bank donors and that its binding was decreased on normal, phospholipase C-treated, granulocytes. The binding of commercial CD16 monoclonal antibodies was also dramatically decreased on normal granulocytes pre-incubated with maternal serum. The CD16 specificity of the antibody was confirmed by negative reactions with another CD16-deficient granulocytes. This observation leads us to conclude that celllineage specific differences of CD16 molecules are recognized by the patient's antibody. Moreover, we confirm that the absence of the FcRIII (CD16) on granulocytes is not associated with any pathology or susceptibility to infections and that, in the children, the blockade of this receptor by the maternal antibody only led to moderate neutropenia.

    Notes: The hydrocortisone pharmacokinetic profiles of hydrocortisone acetate foam (Proctocort) administered rectally was assessed in healthy volunteers and patients with ulcerative colitis or X-irradiation colitis. Endogenous production of hydrocortisone was suppressed by dexamethasone. Comparison of these data with those obtained after intravenous administration enabled assessment of absolute bioavailability, which was 30.0 ± 15.1% in healthy volunteers vs. 16.4 ± 14.8% in patients (P= 0.09). Maximal concentrations of hydrocortisone were also decreased in patients, 277 ± 215 nmol/L vs. 610 ± 334 mmol/L (P= 0.03). There was a nonsignificant tendency to faster absorption of hydrocortisone in patients vs. healthy volunteers, as the times to peak concentration were, respectively, 2.5 ± 1.2 h vs. 2.8 ± 0.8 h (P= 0.64), and the mean absorption times were 1.96 ± 1.45 h vs. 2.54 ± 1.62 h (P= 0.46). Thus, rectal inflammation resulted in a lower absorption of hydrocortisone. In addition systemic plasma levels remained in the physiological range, so that only minor side effects are to be expected.

From the observation of known γ rays observed in182Hg, it was assigned to the (β++ EC) decay of182Tl, the spin and parity of which is very likely 7+.

    Notes: Abstract The192Hg nucleus was populated in the160Gd(36S, 4n) reaction at a beam energy of E=159 MeV. Emittedγ-rays were detected with the EUROGAM array comprising 43 Compton-suppressed large volume Ge detectors. The level scheme of192Hg has been extended up to an excitation energy of E=10.4 MeV and spin I=34 ħ. Two new structures, made of competing ΔI=1 and ΔI=2 transitions have been observed and their connexions with the low-lying levels established. Their lowest levels are located at 6.304 MeV and 6.879 MeV excitation energy. The experimental results are compared with mean-field HF+BCS calculations. It is proposed that the new structures originate from deformation-aligned quasi-proton excitations π(i13/2 * h9/2)K=11 andπ (h9/2) K=8 2 , coupled to rotation-aligned quasi-neutron ν(i13/2)n and quasi-proton π(h11/2)2 excitations.

    Notes: Abstract The nucleus 197 Pb was populated via the 186 W( 17 O,6n)197 Pb reaction at beam energies of 98 and 110 MeV. Two regular ΔI=1 bands of magnetic dipole transitions have been found. Possible interpretations in terms of collective oblate configurations involving high-K proton orbitals coupled to three i 13/2 neutrons are discussed. The similarities between several of the bands discovered in 197–200pbnuclei are emphasized.
