Notes: Abstract The use of ion microviscosity — the viscosity of the first hydration shell — for the description of the salting-out effect in extraction systems has been investigated. The dependences of the extraction of REE and TPE with trioctylphosphine oxide, trioctylamine, and Aliquat 336 on the microviscosity of various ions (Al3+, Fe3+, Mg2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Li+, Cs+) as a salting-out agent were determined. The extraction was carried out from nitric acid solutions and also from solutions containing strong complexing agents. The results indicate that it is possible to use the microviscosity of ions for the explanation of the salting-out action of cations.
