    Notes: Summary Poly(A)+ RNAs from male and female gonads of 20-day-old rats were translated in vitro using rabbit reticulocyte lysates. The resulting polypeptides were incubated with specific anti-male (anti-H-Y) antisera raisedin female rats by intrasplenic immunization with syngeneic male skin. Using a second antibody, a male-specific polypeptide of molecular weight approximately 18,000 was immunoprecipitated. This male-specific polypeptide was not cotranslationally modified in vitro and appeared to be identical to serological H-Y antigen.

    Notes: Summary A DNA probe (Y-190) is described that specifically hybridizes with repeated DNA sequences in the short arm of the human Y chromosome. The suitability of Y-190 to detect Y-derived DNA is shown in two patients with a 45,X/46,X+marker earyotype and in a third patient previously described as having a 45,X karyotype.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Direct measurements of the amplified pressure oscillations in a thermally driven gas-liquid system have been made for several temperature ratios. The rates of amplification have been evaluated and compared with theoretical values. From the measured steady-state pressure amplitudes it has also been possible to determine the character of the nonlinear damping.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Bei thermisch angeregten Gas-Flüssigkeits-Schwingungen wurden die angefachten Druckschwingungen für verschiedene Temperaturverhältnisse direkt gemessen. Dies erlaubte die Ermittlung der Anfachung und einen Vergleich mit theoretischen Werten. Mit den Druckamplituden im stationären Zustand wurde der Charakter der nichtlinearen Dämpfung bestimmt.

    Notes: Summary Coordination compounds of the S2N2 molecule including methods for their preparation, reactivities, i.r. data, structures, and aspects of chemical bonding are reviewed. Methods of synthesis include reactions of S2N2, S4N4 or (NSCl)3 with metal halides, metal complexes such as carbonyls, or even metals themselves. In all cases, the planar S2N2 ring is coordinated, usuallyvia both, of its nitrogen atoms so that S2N2 acts as a bridging ligand between two metal centres; short contact distances imply that halogen atoms linked to the metal atoms show some interaction with the sulphur atoms. The stability of S2N2 is greatly enhanced by coordination. In the i.r. spectra, two characteristic S2N2 vibrations assist identification of the S2N2 species, a ring stretching mode being observable atca. 850 cm−1 and the out-of-plane deformation at 450–490 cm−1.

    Description / Table of Contents: (PPh4)2[WO2Cl3]2 · 2 CH2Cl2. Synthesis, Vibrational Spectrum, and Crystal StructureDepending on the stoichiometry and the solvent, dichloromethane or 1.2-dichloroethane, WO2Cl2 reacts with tetraphenylphosphonium chloride affording (PPh4)2[WO2Cl4] or (PPh4)2[WO2Cl3]2, respectively. Both compounds are easily soluble in dichloromethane, from which they can be crystallized under incorporation of two molecules CH2Cl2 per formula unit. The crystalline compounds have been characterized by their IR and Raman spectra. According to the X-ray crystal structure analysis, (PPh4)2[WO2Cl3]2 · 2 CH2Cl2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with one formula unit per unit cell (986 independent observed reflexions, R = 0.061). Lattice constants: a = 1100.2, b = 1116.9, c = 1238.4 pm, = 69.40, = 80.46 and = 85.62°. The crystals consist of PPh4⊕ ions, centrosymmetric [WO2Cl3]22⊖ anions and CH2Cl2 molecules. In the anions, the tungsten atoms are linked via two oxo bridges with WO distances of 184 and 252 pm. The distorted octahedral coordination around each tungsten atom is completed by three terminal chloro and one terminal oxo ligand (WO bond length 166 pm), the latter being in trans position to the longer WO bridging bond. (PPh4)2[WO2Cl4] · 2 CH2Cl2 also forms triclinic crystals that are isotypic with (PPh4)2[WOCl5] · 2 CH2Cl2 and in which the anions must have orientational disorder.
    Notes: WO2Cl2 reagiert mit Tetraphenylphosphoniumchlorid unter Bildung von (PPh4)2[WO2Cl4] oder (PPh4)2[WO2Cl3]2. Welche der beiden Verbindungen entsteht, hängt von den angewandten Mengenverhältnissen und vom Lösungsmittel Dichlormethan bzw. 1,2-Dichlorethan ab. Beide Verbindungen sind in CH2Cl2 leicht löslich und können daraus unter Einbau von zwei Molekülen CH2Cl2 pro Formeleinheit kristallisiert werden. Die kristallinen Substanzen haben wir durch ihre IR- und Raman-Spektren charakterisiert. Nach der Röntgenstrukturanalyse kristallisiert (PPh4)2[WO2Cl3]2 · 2 CH2Cl2 triklin in der Raumgruppe P1 mit einer Formeleinheit pro Elementarzelle (986 beobachtete, unabhängige Reflexe, R = 6,1%). Die Gitterabmessungen sind a = 1100,2, b = 1116,9, c = 1238,4 pm, α 69,40, β 80,46 und β 85,62°. Die Verbindung enthält PPh4⊕-Ionen, zentrosymmetrische dimere Anionen [WO2Cl3]22⊖ und eingelagerte CH2Cl2-Moleküle. In den Anionen sind die Wolframatome über zwei gewinkelte Oxobrücken mit WO-Abständen von 184 bzw. 252 pm verknüpft. Die verzerrt oktaedrische Umgebung der Wolframatome wird durch drei terminale Chlorliganden und durch einen terminalen Oxoliganden (WO-Abstand 166 pm) erreicht, der sich äquatorial in trans-Position zu dem Brückensauerstoffatom mit dem langen W—O-Abstand befindet. (PPh4)2[WO2Cl4] · 2 CH2Cl2 kristallisiert ebenfalls triklin im gleichen Strukturtyp wie (PPh4)2[WOCl5] · 2 CH2Cl2, wobei das Anion fehlgeordnet verschiedene Orientierungen einnehmen muß.

    Description / Table of Contents: Tribromomethylnitrene Complexes of Tungsten. Crystal Structure of PPh3Me[WBr5(NCBr3)]Tungsten hexabromide reacts with BrCN in boiling bromine under formation of the BrCN adduct of tribromomethylnitrene tungsten, [BrCN—WBr4(NCBr3)]. This reacts with triphenylmethylphosphonium bromide in dibromomethane forming the tribromomethylnitrene pentabromowolframate, PPh3Me[WBr5(NCBr3)]. Both compounds form brown-black, moisture sensitive crystal powders that were characterized by their IR spectra. The crystal structure of PPh3Me[WBr5(NCBr3)] was determined by X-ray diffraction (3 664 observed reflexions, R = 0.066). Crystal data: a = 1 401.6, b = 1 243.3, c = 884.6 pm, α = 90.82, β = 110.74, γ = 90.67°, space group P1, Z = 2. The compound consists of PPh3Me⊕ cations and [WBr5(NCBr3)]⊖ anions in which the tungsten atoms have a distorted octahedral coordination by five bromine atoms and the N atom of the nitrene ligand. The WN bond length of the nitrene ligand (175 pm) corresponds approximately to a triple bond; the W≡N—C group is linear and shows a strong trans effect.
    Notes: Wolframhexabromid reagiert mit Bromcyan in siedendem Brom unter Bildung des Bromcyanadduktes von Tribrommethylnitren-tetrabromowolfram, [BrCN—WBr4(NCBr3)], das sich mit Triphenylmethylphosphoniumbromid in Dibrommethan zu Tribrommethylnitren-pentabromowolframat, PPh3Me[WBr5(NCBr3)], umsetzt. Beide Verbindungen sind schwarzbraune, feuchtigkeitsempfindliche Kristallpulver, die durch ihre IR-Spektren charakterisiert werden. Die Kristallstrukturanalyse von PPh3Me[WBr5(NCBr3)] wurde mit Röntgenbeugung ausgeführt, Raumgruppe P1, Z = 2, 3664 unabhängige, beobachtete Reflexe, R = 6, 6%. Die Gitterkonstanten sind a = 1401, 6; b = 1 243, 3; c = 884, 6 pm; α = 90,82°, β = 110,74°; γ = 90,67°. Die Verbindung besteht aus PPh3Me⊕-Ionen und Anionen [WBr5(NCBr3)]⊖, in denen das Wolframatom verzerrt oktaedrisch von fünf Bromatomen und dem N-Atom des Nitrenoliganden umgeben ist. Der WN-Abstand entspricht mit 175 pm etwa einer Dreifachbindung; die Gruppe \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$\mathop {\rm W}\limits^ \odot \equiv \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ \oplus - {\rm CBr}_3$\end{document} weist eine gestreckte WNC-Achse auf (178°), sie verursacht einen starken trans-Effekt.

This was characterized by its i.r. spectrum and an X-ray crystal structure determination (4078 reflexions uncluding Friedel pairs, R = 0.059). (AsPh4)2[Cl5WNSNWCl5] crystallizes in the monoclinic system, a = 1110.5, b = 1714.6, c = 1521.7 pm, β = 107.24°, Z = 2. The space group is either P21/n with anions statistically disordered in two different positions or Pn with an apparent higher symmetry due to the presence of inversion twins. Bond distances and angles correspond to the formula
    Notes: Der Chlorthionitrenkomplex [WCl4(NSCl)]2 reagiert mit überschüssigem Tetraphenylarsoniumchlorid in Dichlormethanlösung über die Zwischenstufe AsPh4[Cl5W(NSCl)] unter Bildung der Titelverbindung. Diese haben wir durch das IR-Spektrum und eine röntgenographische Strukturbestimmung charakterisiert (4078 Reflexe einschließlich Friedel-Paare, R = 5,9%). (AsPh4)2[Cl5WNSNWCl5] kristallisiert monoklin, a = 1110,5, b = 1714,6, c = 1521,7 pm, β = 107,24°, Z = 2. Die Raumgruppe ist entweder P21/n mit fehlgeordneten Anionen in zwei verschiedenen Orientierungen oder Pn mit vorgetäuschter höherer Symmetrie wegen Vorliegens von Inversionszwillingen.
