Notes: This paper deals with the performance characteristics of a new ac high magnetic field generator based on the effect of eddy currents. We have proposed a new ac high magnetic field generator and have obtained magnetic fields up to 15 T at 60 Hz. The proposed structure consists of layers of exciting coils and conductors built in concentric circles. The eddy currents in the conductor flow close to the hole in the conductor. The magnetic flux induced by the eddy currents is concentrated within the hole, and an ac high magnetic field is produced. A procedure for estimating the optimum shape and number of layers required to increase the concentration effect, together with a design of the colling system necessary for continuous operation, is presented.

Notes: There are some factors increasing the building factor of a transformer assembled from amorphous sheets. One of the factors may be the localized irregularity of magnetization property. Such an inhomogeneity is caused by the localized mechanical stress or the inhomogeneous temperature distribution during annealing. Various stacked cores which are composed of amorphous sheets with inhomogeneous magnetic characteristics as shown in Fig. 1 have been investigated. Each half of the sheet is annealed uniformly at different temperature from the other half. The frequency characteristics of power losses are measured to clarify whether the main cause of the total loss increase is due to the hysteresis loss or the eddy current loss. The obtained results show that the incremental loss is mainly due to the increase of eddy current loss. The increase of eddy current loss may be due to the transverse flux across the interlaminar gap. Therefore, the relationship between power losses and gap length has been examined. The obtained results denote that the eddy current loss is increased by the transverse flux. The experimental results are also checked by numerical analysis of the flux distribution in stacked cores using the finite element method.

Notes: Butanol-extracted water-soluble adjuvant (Bu-WSA) obtained from Bacterionema matruchotti was mitogenic to murine splenic B lymphocytes, but not T lymphocytes. When murine splenic cells were cultured in the presence of Bu-WSA and concanavalin A (Con A) together. [3H|thymidine uptake of the culture cells synergically increased. The mechanism of the synergy of Con A and Bu-WSA and the participation of interleukin (IL) 1 and 2 in the synergy were studied. The proliferation cells in the synergy were I yt-1− 23− lymphocytes.’la-positive accessory cells were required for the response. When separated cell populations and Marbrook-type culture vessels were used, a mixed cell population of T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes or macrophages (Mφ) produced some active factor(s) after co-stimulation by Con A and Bu-WSA, and the factors enhanced DNA synthesis of another Con A-activatcd T lymphocyte population. Supernatants obtained from the spleen cell cultures or the mixed cell cultures with T lymphocytes and Mφ in the presence of Con A and Bu-WSA contained greater amounts of IL-1 and IL-2 than those from cultures containing Con A or Bu-WSA alone. An addition of exogenous IL-1 or IL-2 to spleen cell cultures with Con A resulted in a proliferative response like that obtained through co-stimulation by Con A and Bu-WSA. These results suggest that the synergistic effect of Con A and Bu-WSA on the proliferative response in murine splenic cells is sustained by the enhancement of production of these T-lymphocyte growth factors.

Notes: Abstract We have carried out surface photometry of six simpleHii regions which are characterized by the existence of an exciting star earlier than B0, and a nearly round shape. On the basis of on balibrated image data and adopting a spherical model, we derive the distributions of gas and dust densities in theHii regions.

Notes: Summary The pharmacokinetics of the H2-receptor antagonist famotidine, after oral administration of a 20 mg tablet, has been studied in 10 elderly patients with normal renal function (CLCR≧59 ml·min−1, Mean=80 ml·min−1), 5 elderly patients with renal insufficiency (CLCR≦38 ml·min−1, Mean=15 ml·min−1), and 6 healthy young volunteers. Elimination half-life in the elderly patients with renal insufficiency was significantly prolonged compared to the elderly patients with normal renal function and the young volunteers. The correlation coefficient between creatinine clearance and the elimination rate constant of famotidine was 0.672. Mean urinary recovery of unchanged drug up to 24 h in the young volunteers was 44%. The mean renal clearance of famotidine in the young volunteers (270 ml·min−1) was substantially greater than the creatinine clearance, 128 ml·min−1, which suggests the possibility of tubular secretion of famotidine.

Notes: Rice hulls, when coated with the reactive dye of Procion Red or Procion Yellow, was found to be highly effective for removal of many metal ions from aqueous solutions both in batch and column method. When 120-130 ppm solutions were used, quantitative removal could be achieved with Pb2+, Cd2+, and Hg2+. After the adsorption of metal ions, the substrate could be recovered almost completely by treating with dilute hydrochloric or nitric acid solution, and used repeatedly.
