    Notes: Abstract The nonlinear realizations of supersymmetry are generalized to unconstrained curved superspace. To this aim an enlarged superspace $$(z,\Theta ^\alpha ,\bar \Theta _{\dot \alpha } )$$ in the same way as the flat superspace is defined; the coordinates of this enlarged superspace are not all independent, but it has two equivalent subspaces with independent coordinates: the subspace $$z = (x^m ,\theta ^\mu ,\bar \theta _{\dot \mu } )$$ and the subspace $$(x^m ,\Theta ^\alpha ,\bar \Theta _{\dot \alpha } )$$ .

    Notes: Abstract The new superspace of Wess and Zumino is generalized to the unconstrainedN-extendedD-dimensional case, it amounts actually to a reparametrization of the old superspace. Recurrence relations for the transformation law and for the covariant derivatives of the superfields defined in the new superspace are obtained. The definition of the component fields as local Lorentz covariant fields has the consequence that the gauge covariant expressions obtained for the vielbein and the connection of the new superspace don't contain the terms dropped out in the Wess-Zumino gauge of supergravity.

    Notes: Summary The lines of evidence suggesting that RNA preceded double-stranded DNA as an informational macromolecule are briefly reviewed. RNA polymerase is hypothesized to have been one of the earliest proteins to appear. It is argued that an important vestige of the original enzyme is found in the contemporary eubacterial β′ subunit of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and its homologues among the archaebacterial and eukaryotic enzymes. The evidence that supports a catalytic role in replicase activity of this polypeptide is reviewed. It is suggested that several characteristics of theEscherichia coli transcriptional apparatus are relatively recent evolutionary developments. The phylogenetic importance of the eubacterial β′ subunit from RNA polymerase and its homologues is emphasized, because it allows the study of the evolutionary relationships of the major cellular lines (eubacteria, archaebacteria, and eukaryotes) as well as of some viral lineages.

    Notes: Abstract The transformationβ→γ Li3PO4 shows characteristics of both continuous and martensitic transformations. Below ∼340° C, no detectable transformation occurs; between 340 and 410° C, the transformation goes only partially to completion; above ∼410° C the transformation rapidly goes to completion. At any temperature in the range 340 to 410° C, transformation proceeds rapidly in the initial stages to attain a certain degree of transformation. With prolonged isothermal heating or grinding of the samples, further transformation does not occur. The reverse transformation could not be effected under normal, dry conditions.
