Notes: Abstract A numerical procedure is presented combining the techniques of finite elements with those of finite differences. The applicability of this concept and the accuracy of its predictions are demonstrated by determining the motion of interfaces in onedimensional multiphase systems.

Notes: Abstract This paper develops a value for side payments games when a cooperation description of the players is priorly given. This cooperation description (called “Levels Structure”) contains a sequence of levels of cooperative agreements, each represented by a coalition structure. The value developed is shown to be an extension of some well known values such as the Shapley value (1959), Aumann and Dreze' extension of Shapley value (1974) and Owen's value for prior coalition structure (1977). In the second section some properties of the value are discussed.

Notes: Summary Transient experiments were performed during a batch fermentation ofCorynebacterium glutamicum ATCC 14296 in which the flow of air to the reactor was cut off. The fluorescence of the culture was observed to vary linearly with the culture redox potential during the transient. This observation was made below the sensitivity limit of a dissolved oxygen probe. It appears that redox potential in conjunction with fluorescence measurements are of utility in studying extra- and intracellular reduction states, particularly in the microaerobic regime.

Notes: An aramid reinforced aluminum-epoxy-laminate, ARALL, which contains a fatigue crack and a delamination zone is analyzed. It is assumed that the interlaminar shear forces between the aluminum and aramid/epoxy layers are transmitted along the delamination boundary. The aramid/epoxy layer of the laminate is considered a series of linear springs. The tensile stress in the aramid/epoxy layer and the stress intensity factor in the aluminum layer are found for various experimentally observed delamination shapes. A residual strength criterion based on the maximum tensile stress in the aramid/epoxy layer is applied and the analytical results are correlated with the available experimental data.
