Notizen: The effect of oscillation of internal pressure on the formability and shape accuracy of theproducts in a pulsating hydroforming process of T-shaped parts was examined by finite elementsimulation. The local thinning was prevented by oscillating the internal pressure. The filling ratio ofthe die cavity and the symmetrical degree of the filling was increased by the oscillation of pressure. The calculated deforming shape and the wall thickness are in good agreement with the experimentalones. It was found that pulsating hydroforming is useful in improving the formability and shapeaccuracy in the T-shape hydroforming operation

Notizen: The filling of the die corner in hydroforming of a tube with a box die was improved bycontrolling wrinkling under oscillation of internal pressure. In this process, a small wrinkle occursnear the die corner in the former stage, and then the wrinkle is eliminated in the latter stage becausethe flat bulge appears in the former stage due to the oscillation of internal pressure. A hydroformingprocess of steel tubes with a box die was performed in both three dimensional finite elementsimulation and experiment. The filling of the die corner for the mean linear pressure was not sufficientdue to large wrinkles appearing in the former stage, whereas bursting occurs for the peak linearpressure due to round bulging. On the other hand, the uniformity of wall thickness of the formed tubewas improved by the pulsating pressure

Notizen: The precipitation behavior of cementite in low carbon steels at various heating rates from0.3 to 100 K/s has been studied using a high-frequency induction heating apparatus. The materialsused in this study were steel plates[removed info]for welded structures: 610 and 780 MPa class steel plates with amixed microstructure of bainite and martensite.[removed info]Cementite was observed using a carbon extractionreplica method and the hardness and toughness were also examined.[removed info] When heated at theconventional slow rate of 0.3 K/s, relatively large cementite particles with an average diameter of72 nm precipitated at the lath boundaries, whereas when heated at a rapid rate over 3.0 K/s,cementite precipitated both within the laths and at the lath boundaries, and the cementite wasrefined down to an average diameter of 54 nm. With such refinement of the cementite, thetoughness was improved. On the other hand, the hardness was irrespective of the heating rate andwas dependent on the tempering parameter. TEM observations of the cementite precipitationbehavior during the rapid heating process revealed that cementite begins to precipitate at the lathboundaries at about 773 K and within the laths at about 873 K. It is concluded that rapid heatingespecially from 773 to 873 K contributes to the cementite refinement and consequently theimprovement in toughness. The effect of alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum orsilicon on the cementite growth during the rapid heating and tempering treatment is also discussed

Notizen: Summary Pairs of cultured amniotic cells and maternal fibroblasts (“feto-maternal pairs”) were studied for hexosaminidase A (HXA) and arylsulfatase A (ASA) activity. These lysosomal enzyme activities are genetically deficient in Tay-Sachs disease and metachromatic leukodystrophy, respectively. After HXA was standardized by relating it to hexosaminidase B (HXB) activity, a feto-maternal correlation coefficient of r=0.51 (n=32; 95% confidence limits 0.197–0.73) was found for the HXA/HXB activity quotients. This coefficient was near the 0.5 value theoretically valid for mother-child pairs, suggesting that the studied activities reflect essentially the genetic variability. The studies of ASA revealed a high variability of individual activities, which was reduced in two steps: (1) The ASA activity was related to the mean of two lysosomal reference enzyme activities, total hexosaminidase and acid β-galactosidase. (2) Since the square root of ASA activity was found to follow more closely the variation of the reference activities, the square root of ASA activity over the mean reference activity was taken as a more standardized measure of ASA activity, and the quotient was treated statistically. Positive feto-maternal correlation of standardized ASA activity was obtained after the elimination of three pairs with extreme values. A correlation coefficient of r=0.42 (n=26; 95% confidence limits 0.039–0.695) resulted. The implications of these correlation studies for the problem of heterozygote identification by quantitative enzyme assays in families deficient in HXA and ASA activity were considered.

Notizen: Abstract The temperature and bulk density dependence of the thermal conductivity of commercial aluminosilicate fibrous insulators were studied by using the transient hot wire method. The thermal conductivity of ceramic fibrous insulators in both air and helium gas atmosphere increased with increasing bulk density. At high temperatures, however, the insulators with lower bulk density showed a higher thermal conductivity because of heat radiation. The following experimental relation between thermal conductivity λ and temperature θ was obtained for aluminosilicate fibruous insulators: λ=a exp(bθ). Relationships are given between the constants a and b and the bulk density. From the relation, the optimum bulk density of ceramic fibrous insulators can be calculated for each working temperature.

Notizen: Abstract Fractional rates (% · day−1) of synthesis and degradation were determined by measuring the output of Nτ-methylhistidine (MeHis) in the excreta at 4 and 8 weeks of age in the chicken. At 4 weeks of age, the fractional rate of synthesis of the meat-type stock was twice that of the egg-type stock (White Leghorn), but the fractional rates of synthesis at 8 weeks of age were similar (4.1–5.1% · day−1) among stocks. The fractional rate of degradation (1.3–1.5% · day−1) of the meat-type stock at 8 weeks of age was less than half the rate of the egg-type stock (2.9% · day−1). The fractional rates of synthesis and degradation at 4 weeks of age in the Satsuma native fowl were relatively high compared with those in the other stocks. In particular, the rate of degradation (8.6% · day−1) at 4 weeks of age was approximately twice that of other stocks. These results show that fractional rates of synthesis and degradation of muscle protein in the chicken differ among genetically diverse groups. The effect of changes in rates of synthesis and degradation on the change in fractional growth rate also differed. From regression coefficients (bK s · FGR and bK d · FGR) of these rates in skeletal muscle protein on the fractional growth rate, it was recognized that the change in growth rate accompanies the changes in both synthesis and degradation in White Leghorn and commercial broilers but only the change in synthesis in White Plymouth Rock (dw) and Satsuma native fowl.

Notizen: Abstract The stress intensity factors are presented for a vertical semi-elliptical surface crack in an elastic semi-infinite body which is subjected to a constant pressure on the crack surface. The approach utilizes a singular integral equation which is defined over the crack area only, where the weakness of the stress singularity is taken into account near the corner points at which the crack periphery intersects the surface of the semi-infinite body. This pertinent approach provides the proper assessment of the stress intensity factors in the vicinity of the corner points, and reveals that the stress intensity factor reaches a maximum value near the corner point and then decreases to zero as the point is approached.
