Notes: Abstract The adenylate kinases (EC 2.7.4.3) from photosynthetically grown Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides and Rhodospirillum rubrum were purified to homogeneity by the same procedure. The purified enzymes showed optimal rates of activity with MgCl2 at 25° C and pH 8.0. They were found to be heat labile and were characterized by pI-values of 4.5. Apparent molecular weights of 33 500 for R. palustris, 34 400 for R. sphaeroides and 32 100 for R. rubrum were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. No separation into subunits was observed by use of sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The apparent K m -values for ADP corresponded to 0.26 mM for R. palustris, 0.27 mM for R. sphaeroides and 0.24 mM for R. rubrum. ADP in excess had a strong inhibitory effect. Competitive product inhibition was found for AMP, with K i-values of 0.017 mM for R. palustris, 0.018 mM for R. sphaeroides and 0.014 mM for R. rubrum. A competitive inhibitor likewise was P1,P5-di(adenosine-5′)pentaphosphate with K i-values of 0.020 μM for R. palustris and R. sphaeroides, and 0.017 μM for R. rubrum. Sulfhydryl-reacting reagents like p-chloromercuribenzoate and iodoacetic acid were found to be non-inhibitory. All measurements of adenylate kinase activity were carried out with the stabilized and most sensitive luciferin-luciferase system.

Notes: Summary HPLC with DEAE silica gel has been used for the separation of mixed hexabromochloro-osmates(IV) and-rhenates(IV) and for the detection of impurities in separated species (other mixed ligand complex ions, hydrolysis products).

Description / Table of Contents: Separation and Characterization of Chloro-aquo-hydroxo-oxo-osmates(IV)As a result of the acidic hydrolysis of hexachloroosmate(IV), OsCl62-, and/or the careful reduction of osmium tetroxide with iron(II) sulfate in hydrochloric acid products have been obtained which have been separated by column chromatography using diethylaminoethyl cellulose. On the basis of the analytically determined Os:Cl ratios, the ionic charges that could be deduced from the elution behaviour, and the absorption spectra the products have been characterized as the monomers OsCl5(H2O)-, cis-OsCl4(OH)(H2O)-, fac-OsCl3(OH)2(H2O)- and mer-OsCl3(OH)(H2O)2, the O-bridged dimers Cl5Os—O—OsCl54-, cis-(H2O)Cl4Os—O—OsCl4(H2O)2-and fac-(H2O)(OH)Cl3Os—O—OsCl3(OH)(H2O)2- and the hydrogen bridges forming OH-bridged dimers shown in “Inhaltsübersicht”.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation of Mixed Potassium Hexabromochloro Osmates(IV), K2OsBrnCl6-n (n = 1…5), and Potassium Hexabromochloro Rhenates(IV), K2ReBrnCl6-n (n = 1…5)Solutions of mixed hexabromochloro osmates and rhenates which were separated by ion column chromatography are extracted by tridodecylamine in ether. The potassium salts are precipitated from the extractions with potassium acetate and following further purification are characterized spectrophotometrically and by powder X-ray methods.

Description / Table of Contents: Phase Relationships in the Systems Cerium-Hydrogen and Cerium-DeuteriumThe phase relationships in the system cerium-hydrogen have been reinvestigated. Contrary to the literature a decrease of the lattice parameter with increasing hydrogen content has been observed for the cubic hydrides only up to a composition CeH2.30, for higher hydrogen content the lattice parameters remain constant. At the composition Ce3H7 a new phase with a tetragonal structure has been found. The analogous phases have been observed in the Ce—D system.
