Abstract A yellow as well as a violett and seven orange pigments have been isolated by chromatography on Sephadex from the extracts of the red skin of fly agaric. In contrast to earlier reports these were elucidated to belong to the betalain type class of colouring matters which have been known in higher plants so far. Biogenetic type synthesis confirm there structures and biogenetic considerations. These results are presented in context with others.
