    Notes: Abstract The electric field gradients (EFG) for ruthenium in scandium and yttrium metal were determined by TDPAC measurements to be 19(4) × 1017 V/cm2 and 5.5(12) × 1017 V/cm2 respectively at room temperature. The EFG for Ru in Sc was found to vary considerably in the temperature range from 14 to 700 K, whereas for Ru in Y only an extremely small temperature dependence of the EFG was observed.

    Notes: Abstract Theg-factors of the first excited 3/2+ states of101Ru and95Mo have been measured by observing the rotation ofγ-γ directional correlations in the decays of 3.3y 101Rh and 61d 95m Tc in external magnetic fields of about 9.5T provided by our split coil superconducting magnet. The results: $$g_{{\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 3$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 2$}}^ + } ({}^{101}Ru,127 keV) = - 0.157(8)$$ and $$g_{{\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 3$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 2$}}^ + } ({}^{95}Mo,204 keV) = - 0.269(8)$$ are by far more accurate than previous investigations some of which had given quite different results. Bothg-factors are quite well explained by the de Shalit model in its most simple version. A measurement of the half-life of the 127 keV state of101Ru by delayed coincidences with CsF-detectors gave $$T_{{\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 1$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 2$}}} ({}^{101}Ru,127 keV) = - 0.66(1) ns$$ in disagreement with most previous measurements.

    Notes: Abstract The nuclear Larmor precession has been observed for the 2+, 4+ and 6+ rotational states of184W in the hyperfine field of WFe by application of the TDPAC and the IPAC techniques. A carrier free radioactive source of184m Re alloyed with high purity iron was used for all three measurements. From the Larmor precession observed in the 2+ state by TDPACω L = 944(15) MHz and the knowng-factor the hyperfine fieldB 300 K hf (WFe)=−69.6(27)T was derived. The deviation from the result of a spin echo experiment with183WFe extrapolated to room temperature may be caused by the Bohr-Weisskopf effect (hyperfine anomaly). IPAC measurements with the same sample polarized in an external magnetic field of 1.6T gave for the 4+ and 6+ rotational states: ω L τ(4+)=0.0609(22) andω L τ(6+)=0.00735(102). By use of experimentalB(E2)-values theg R -factors were derived asg R (4+)=+0.276(26) andg R (6+)=+0.281(45). The directional correlation of the 537−384 keVγ-γ cascade has been analysed in terms of anE1/M2/E3 mixture for theK-forbidden 537keV transition. We obtained the mixing ratiosδ(M2/E1)=±0.086(16),δ(E3/E1)=−0.028(5) with the sign convention of Krane and Steffen.

    Notes: Abstract Theg-factor of the 2+ rotational state of184W was redetermined by an IPAC measurement in an external magnetic field of 9.45 (5)T as: $$g_{2^ + } (^{184} W) = + 0.289(7).$$ In the evaluation the remeasured half-life of the 2+ state: $$T_{{1 \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {1 2}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} 2}} (2^ + ) = 1.251(12)ns$$ was used. TDPAC-measurements with a sample of carrierfree184Re in high purity iron gave the hyperfine fields: $$B_{300 K}^{hf} (^{184} W_2 + \underline {Fe} ) = 70.1(21)T$$ and $$B_{40 K}^{hf} (^{184} W_{2^ + } \underline {Fe} ) = 71.8(22)T.$$ A comparison with the hyperfine field known from a spin echo experiment with183W g Fe leads to the hyperfine anomaly: $$^{184} W_{2^ + } \Delta ^{183} W_g = + 0.145(36).$$ The hyperfine splitting observed in a Mössbauer source experiment with another sample of carrierfree184m Re in high purity iron indicates that the smaller splitting, measured previously by a Mössbauer absorber experiment is due to the high tungsten concentration in the absorber. The new value for theg-factor of the 2+ state together with the result of the Mössbauer experiment allow an improved calibration for our recent investigation of theg R -factors of the 4+ and 6+ rotational states. The recalculated values are: $$g_{4^ + } (^{184} W) = + 0.293(23)$$ and $$g_{6^ + } (^{184} W) = + 0.299(43).$$ The remeasured 792-111 keVγ-γ angular correlation $$W(\Theta ) = 1 - 0.034(4) \cdot P_2 + 0.325(6) \cdot P_4 $$ gives for the mixing ratio of theK-forbidden 792keV transition: $$\delta ({{E2} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{E2} {M1}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {M1}}) = - \left( {17.6\begin{array}{*{20}c} { + 1.8} \\ { - 1.5} \\ \end{array} } \right).$$ A detailed investigation of the attenuation ofγ-γ angular correlations in liquid sources of184Re and184m Re revealed the reason for erroneous results of early measurements of the 2+ g R -factor: The time dependence of the perturbation is not of a simple exponential type. It contains an unresolved strong fast component.

    Notes: Abstract The electric field gradient (EFG) for117InBe has been determined by a TDPAC measurement to be eqtot=1.83(1) 1017V/cm2 at room temperature. The sources were prepared by ion — implantation of117Cd in a Be single crystal. The EFG was found to decrease considerably with increasing temperature. The results are compared to those of other impurities in Be.

    Notes: Abstract The Β-γ TDPAC technique was applied to111Ag implanted in Zr and Sb metal single crystals in order to determine sign and magnitude of the quadrupole interaction at the site of111Cd in these metals. An analysis of the data taken at 293K yielded ΝQ=+15.4(6) MHz for111Cd in Zr and ΝQ=−107.5(20) MHz for111Cd in Sb. From these values electric field gradients of +7.3(8)×1016 V/cm2 and −5.56(62)×1017 V/cm2 for Cd in Zr and Sb are derived respectively.

    Notes: Abstract TDPAC measurements were carried out in Tungsten foils and single crystals using implanted181Hf as a probe nucleus. After proton irradiation at 25 K the trapping of a defect at the Hf probe was observed, which lead to a quadrupole interaction frequency of νQ=354(5) MHz. The defect could be identified as a W self interstitial forming a 〈100〉 mixed dumbbell with a Hf impurity atom.

    Notes: Abstract The intensive study of electric field gradients (EFG) at the site of atomic nuclei in noncubic metals has revealed several systematic trends, e.g. in the relation of the total EFG to the so called lattice EFG as well as in its variation with temperature. Numerous investigations have been carried out in order to test these systematics. The results will be reviewed and compared to the known trends. Progress in theoretical calculations of the EFG in pure and impurity — host systems will be discussed and compared to the latest available experimental data. Recent measurements of the EFG at metal surfaces and new calculations of the EFG at host sites in impure cubic metals may contribute to the understanding of the EFG in metals.
