Conclusions 1. D5 ′-Pentarane(cyclopentano[16α, 17α]pregn-4-en-3,20-dione)was synthesized, starting from D6 ′-pentaran, by splitting the six-membered D′-ring, recyclizati on across the dialdehyde, decarbonylation, and hydrogenation. 2. Homogeneous hydrogenation of the double bond in the D′ ring using a rhodium complex catalyst proceeds selectively without affecting the Δ4 bonds.
