Notes:
The three Senior Visiting Dermatologists at the Royal Adelaide Hospital are in substantial agreement regarding the management of psoriasis, with only minor variations in prescriptions for topical applications. This paper attempts to set out our present views and practice in the management of psoriasis at both in-patient and out-patient levels. The place of various local applications such as tar preparations, dithranol and corticosteroids in the various types and phases of psoriasis is discussed. The indications for and contra-indications to the use of methotrexate are considered. These are now becoming reasonably clear. The use of hydroxyurea, which is a more recent introduction, is also discussed. The use of a combination of these two drugs sequentially or at the same time in the light of our limited experience is also mentioned.
