    Notes: Abstract A liquid-nitrogen cooled12C16O laser was operated both Q-switched and cw. A total of 276 lasing transitions were observed in cw using an intracavity grating for line selection. In the Q-switch mode, 230 lines occurred without dispersive element in the cavity.

    Notes: Abstract The ESR spectra ofZ 2(Eu)-centers in KBr and KCl are presented and correlated to the optical absorption and the electron spin resonance of the Europium vacancy complex. The fine structure of theZ 2 spectra can be described by a Spin-Hamiltonian with an axialb 2 0 -parameter only. At room temperature it amounts to 1,761 ⋅ 10−4 cm−1 for KBr, 1,854 ⋅ 10−4 cm−1 for KCl and 1,453 ⋅ 10−4 cm−1 for RbCl. Accordingly theZ 2(Eu)-center must posses a strict axial 〈100〉-symmetry in these crystals.

    Notes: Abstract With a spin-flip Raman laser paramagnetic species can be observed selectively at high sensitivity by magnetic-field modulation. Zeeman modulation spectroscopy (ZMS) at zero external field has been tested with the2 II 3/2 Q-branch of nitric oxide. The sensitivity of this new technique is high enough to observe the “hot” bandv=2←1 of nictric oxide at room temperature. Therefore this method should be suitable for free radical investigations.

    Notes: Abstract Spectral coincidences between CO-laser lines and NO fundamental absorption lines were reinvestigated in order to resolve discrepancies between recently published papers. The absorption of CO laser radiation by NO and NO/Ar mixtures was measured and fitted by calculations using a Voigt profile for the NO line shapes. A new coincidence with a frequency offset of less than the NO Doppler width was found.
