Notes: Summary Avulsion and posterior dislocation of the posterior part of the vertebral apophysis is a rare condition, occurring mainly in adolescence. If the avulsed part is ossified it may be diagnosed with conventional X-rays in cluding myelography. The present case shows that CT scan with sagittal reconstruction gives exact information of the nature of the lesion as well as its extension into the spinal canal, and that CT alone is sufficient for preoperative diagnosis.

Notes: Summary Five patients have been selected to demonstrate the diagnostic accuracy of CT in cases of traumatic damage to the base of the skull and spine in infants and children. CT is superior to any other diagnostic radiological technique as bone and soft tissues are usually equally well demonstrated during one visit to the Radiology Department. Thus, CT is considered to be the primary investigative procedure of choice to evaluate trauma of the base of the skull and spine in infants and children.

Notes: Abstract A new radiologic classification of juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) of the knee joint is presented. Osteoporosis, epiphyseal enlargement, erosions, subchondral cyst formation and deformity of the joint surfaces are expressed in terms of a score. No attention is paid to the joint space or soft tissues. Thirty knee joints in 15 patients with JCA were evaluated according to the radiologic classification. There was a good correlation between the radiologic score and the clinical findings. The inter- and intraobserver variation was low. The classification system is proposed as a valuable tool for measuring the degree of knee joint destruction in evaluation of the natural course or results of treatment in JCA.

Notes: Abstract The decay of103Ru to103Rh has been studied using a double-focussing spectrometer for the electron and negaton spectra and a Ge(Li) detector for gamma-ray measurements. TheL-conversion groups of the 40, 53, and 497 keV transitions were resolved at high resolution and unambigous multipolarity assignments were obtained for these transitions. The level scheme proposed resembles in principle that suggested by previous investigators. One essential difference is the doublet character of the state around 0.65 MeV. Tentative spin-parity values have been assigned to all levels from the deduced multipolarities and logft values.

Notes: Abstract The internal conversion spectrum from the decay of96Tc has been investigated using a 50 cm radius double-focussing beta-ray spectrometer. Relevant features of the internal conversion spectrum from the decay of96Nb have also been reexamined in the same way. Special interest has been focussed on investigating a proposed doublet level structure at about 2.44 MeV and higher lying levels in96Mo. Internal conversion coefficients have been obtained for most transitions by combining the measured conversion electron intensities obtained in this work with recently reported gamma-ray intensities from Ge(Li) detector measurements. A level scheme has been compiled and deduced transition multipolarities have been used for a discussion of spins and parities for the levels.

Notes: Abstract The internal conversion spectrum following the decay of193Au has been studied in the electron energy region 0.8 to 700 keV, with the use of high-resolution magnetic beta-ray spectrometers. Several not previously reported transitions have been estabblished. Multipolarities and mixing ratios have been deduced fromK/L and subshell intensity ratios, and the majority of the transitions were found to be ofM1 and/orE2 characters. A revised level scheme for193Pt, which consistently accomodates most transitions, has been constructed. Tentative spin-parity values have been assigned to all levels.

Notes: Abstract The internal conversion subshell intensities of the (21.529±0.014) keV transition in151Eu and the (22.494±0.011) keV transition in149Sm have been determined in a high resolution investigation using a double-focussing iron-core spectrometer. The subshell ratios yielded unambiguousM1+E2 multipole mixtures for both transitions. δ2(E2/M1) for the 21.53 keV transition was determined to be (8.8±0.7)·10−4 and for the 22.49 keV transition to be (5.5±1.2)·10−3.

Notes: Abstract Transitions in146Eu and146Sm were studied using a double-focussing beta-ray spectrometer and a Ge(Li) detector. Internal conversion and gamma-ray intensities were determined. The internal conversion spectrum of the three 155, 115 and 116 keV cascading transitions in146Eu was studied for all subshells.K-,L- andM-subshell ratios were determined andE2/M1 mixing ratios were deduced for these three transitions. Intensities from theN- andO+P-shells were determined and compared to theoretical calculations. All internal conversion intensities were found to be in agreement with theoretical data for pureM1 character with smallE2 admixtures for all the three transitions. Selected parts of the internal conversion spectrum of the transitions in146Sm were restudied at 0.06% momentum resolution. This study was mainly concentrated on four transition doublets feeding and deexciting the close lying levels at 1,380 and 1,381 keV. A new transition with 702.20 keV energy was detected in the 702–703 keV transition group. Internal conversion coefficients were deduced using reported gamma-ray intensities. Multipole characters of the transitions were deduced and used as a basis for a discussion of the spins and parities of the lower lying excited states of146Sm.

Notes: Abstract An electron-electron coincidence method for precise measurements of internal conversion probabilities is described. By usingK-Auger electrons the atom itself provides a unity standard in the same nuclear decay. The method is applied to the decay of111In in which theK-conversion probability of the 245 keV transition is determined to be 0.0494±0.0011. Relative internal conversion intensities and transition energies are determined using a double focussing spectrometer. These data make it possible to calculate conversion coefficients for all electron shells.
