Résumé L'auteur a étudié les modifications du liquide céphalo-rachidien (L.C.R.) chez 165 malades soumis à une encéphalographie gazeuse par voie lombaire. Des modifications importantes ne survenaient que dans la numération cellulaire et la concentralion protéinique. Dans 60% des cas apparut une pléocytose lymphocytaire prédominante, supérieure à deux cellules par mm3. La réaction cellulaire était proportionnelle au temps séparant les prélèvements initial et final de LCR, plus grande lorsque la numération des leucocytes initiale excèdait cinq cellules par mm3 et/ou en rapport avec une réaction inflammatoire intracrânienne. On relevait une diminution relativement constante d'environ 20% de la teneur en protéines du LCR. Cette diminution semblait due essentiellement à la dilution partielle du LCR lombaire avec le liquide ventriculaire et cisternal. Compte-tenu des grandes variations individuelles dans la teneur en protéines, en particulier dans les cas limites, il est recommandé de n'utiliser que le prélèvement initial de LCR pour les examens biochimiques et l'analyse cellulaire afin d'eviter toute erreur de diagnostic.

Zusammenfassung Es handelt sich um Untersuchungen von 165 Patienten, bei denen eine Luftencephalographie durchgeführt wurde. Signifikante Veränderungen zeigten sich lediglich in der Zellzahl und im Eiweißgehalt. Aus der Arbeit geht eindeutig hervor, daß nur der zuerst gewonnene Liquor nach der Lumbalpunktion für biochemische und Zellanalysen verwandt werden kann. Ausführliche Beschreibung der gefundenen Veränderungen.

Summary The changes in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) during lumbar air encephalography were studied in 165 patients. Significant changes occurred only in the cell count and protein concentration. A predominantly lymphocytic pleocytosis of greater than 2 cells per cu mm appeared in 60% of cases, the cellular reaction being proportional to the time between initial and final CSF samples, and greater when the initial CSF white cell count exceeded 5 cells/mm3 and/or in disorders associated with an intracranial inflammatory reaction. A relatively constant decrease in the total CSF protein content of approximately 20% of the initial value was noted, and was felt to be due primarily to partial dilution of the lumbar CSF by ventricular and cisternal fluid.—In view of the wide individual variations in the changes in protein content, particularly in the borderline abnormal range, it is recommended that only the initial CSF specimen be used for biochemical and cellular analysis, to avoid diagnostic confusion.
