Notes: Abstract We have investigated theγ-rays from the decay of 46-min51Mn produced by the50Cr (d, n) reaction. Twelveγ-rays were observed. Theseγ-rays have been incorporated into a level scheme of51Cr with levels at 0, 749.1, 1164.4, 1353.3, 1557.4, 1899.4, 2001.4, 2312.5 and 2829.7 keV. Branching ratios, logft values, and jπ assignments are discussed for these levels. The lifetime of the 749.1 keV level was measured to be T1/2=7.6 ± 0.3 ns by utilizing the51V(p, n γ 51Cr reaction produced by a 3.8 MeV pulsed proton beam. The 749 keV,E2 transition is hindered by a factor of 34 compared to the Weisskopf estimate.

Notes: Abstract The 810.6–863.6 keV γγ-directional correlation has been measured with an NaI(Tl)-Ge(Li) detector system. The NaI window was set on the 810.6+863.6 keV composite peak. From the (810.6 NaI gate) (863.6 Ge spectrum) data at 90 °, 135 °, and 180 °, we deducedA 2=+0.51±0.03 andA 4=+0.09±0.04. These results disagree with the values previously obtained from58Co decay (with Nal-NaI detector systems) but agree with the values from γγ(θ) studies following thermal neutron capture by57Fe.

Notes: Summary We have studied in this paper irrotational cnoidal waves at the interface of a two-fluid system over a toroidal channel of arbitrary cross section. Also we have discussed here interfacial cnoidal waves in a straight channel of arbitrary cross section. Further, we have worked out some special cases and it is found that the results of our analysis are in agreement withBenjamin [7] andLong [12] etc.

Notes: An NMR. investigation of the state of formaldehyde in acidic solutions has been carried out. Solutions of DCl/D2O/CD3COOD containing two sources of formaldehyde, i.e. paraformaldehyde (I) and trioxane (II), were used for this purpose. In systems I and II the effect of various D2O/CD3COOD ratios, at a constant DCl concentration, was studied, while for II the effect of changing DCl concentration was also investigated. The results show that in aqueous solution, formaldehyde exists primarily as the monomeric and linear oligomeric forms of methylene glycol. Reducing the amount of D2O (at constant DCl concentration), while increasing the CD3COOD content, results in an increase in the polymeric species and in trioxane. In addition, substitution of water by acetic acid results in systems that are catalytically more active than aqueous solutions of the same hydrochloric acid concentration. Along with the usual polymer-monomer equilibria which exist in such solutions, side reactions of methylene glycol with the hydrochloric acid present also occur to a small extent, e.g. acetylation, substitution of OH by Cl and the Cannizzaro reaction. It is suggested that these findings will result in a better understanding of the formaldehyde crosslinking reactions in cotton cellulose.
