    Notes: Abstract Coal macerals are often, as is well known, optically anisotropic. Recent charcoal, carboniferous fusinite and carboniferous vitrinite were measured: 1. with a special goniometer, 2. in a microscope with vertical illumination between crossed polarizers, 3. with a mica compensator. The measurements with the special goniometer and photomultiplier gave characteristic curves. The minimum of these curves is the Brewster angle, which is constant for a particular material. The value of the Brewster angle is different parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the seam respectively. While the sample is rotating (360°) in a microscope between the crossed polarizers the value of reflectivity changes in a characteristically symmetrical manner. There is good agreement with the goniometer measurement. To study the influence of absorption similar curves were produced for quartz, turmaline and vitrain. It was possible to find the retardation in a layer of vitrain by means of a very sensitive elliptical compensator. The absolute value of this retardation is extremely small, its mathematical sign coincides with the results of the other experiments.

    Notes: Abstract By the aid of a goniometer with the optic of a microscope it is possible to measure well reproducible the principal angle of incidence of a polished ore section. It may be used as a standard material constant for identifications. By the use of objective methods, with the aid of photomultiplier tubes and analysis by computation an accuracy of some few minutes of arc is within reach. Whereby certainly the quality of the sections and the polishing have to satisfy high requirements. The measurements are done without using a standard of comparison. They may be used as complement to the common measurements by vertical illumination. Details of the object are measurable down to a minimum diameter of about 15 μm.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird über Nachuntersuchungen von 25 Hüften bis zu 6 Jahre nach intertrochanterer valgisierender-medialisierender Osteotomie mit Verkürzung des coxalen Femurendes bei primärer Protrusio acetabuli berichtet. Die Ergebnisse waren bei den jüngeren Patienten am besten, bei denen neben ausgeprägter Schmerzreduzierung auch eine Verbesserung der Hüftgelenksbeweglichkeit nachgewiesen werden konnte. Das 1970 zur Therapie der primären Protrusio acetabuli vorgeschlagene operative Verfahren hat damit seinen Erfolg beweisen können und wird in unserer Klinik in geeigneten Fällen routinemäßig angewandt.
    Notes: Summary This paper presents a follow up study of 25 hips up to 6 years after intertrochanteric valgus osteotomy with medial displacement in cases of primary protrusio acetabuli. The operative procedure described above gave the best results in cases of the youngest patients. In these cases relief of pain could be noticed together with an improvement in hip mobility. The operative therapy of the primary protrusio acetabuli described in 1970 could prove its effectiveness up to today and has become a routine procedure in suitable cases.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Autoradiographische in vitro-Untersuchungen gesunder und psoriatisch veränderter Haut mit dem Doppelmarkierungsverfahren (1 µC C-14-Thymidin und 10 µC H-3-Thymidin) ergaben bei unbehandelter psoriatischer Haut einen entsprechend der gesteigerten Proliferationsaktivität auf durchschnittlich 8,83% erhöhten Thymidinmarkierungsindex. Die Generationszeit war verkürzt. Unter der durchgeführten Dithranol-Saliclysäure (10%)-Vaseline-Behandlung (DSP) kam es entsprechend dem klinischen Verlauf zu einer Normalisierung des Markierungsindex und zu einer Verlängerung bzw. Normalisierung der Dauer des Zellcyclus. Nach den erhaltenen Ergebnissen scheint ein Einfluß der Dithranol-Salbe auf die DNS-Synthese zu bestehen.
    Notes: Summary Autoradiographic in vitro-examination of normal and of psoriatic skin, using the double labelling technique (1 µC thymidine-2-C14 and 10 µC thymidine-methyl-H3), revealed the usual increase of proliferative activity in psoriatic skin, approximately four times greater than normal. The cell cycle time was shortened. According to the data obtained by the double labelling technique a shortening of the DNA synthesis time was not found in vitro. Treatment with a dithranol-salicylic acid (10%)-petrolatum ointment (DSP) normalized the cell cycle in accordance with the degree of clinical improvement. The findings seem to indicate that DSP has an effect on the DNA-synthesis.

Vibrational spectra of some alkali metal alkanearsonatesThe RAMAN and IR spectra of Lim, Na and K methanearsonate and those of Na and K ethanearsonate (some of them being in the hydrated form) are communicated group. For the latter, symmetry C3v is established, with the degenerate and the symmetric AsO3 valence frequencies lying in direct neighbourhood and being resolved only in the solid state spectra. Li—O valence modes are observed at about 500cm-1.
    Notes: Es werden die RAMAN- und IR-Spektren des Lithium-, Natriumund Kaliummethanarsonates sowie die des Natrium- und Kaliumäthanarsonates (zum Teil mit Kristallwasser) mitgeteilt und diskutiert. Die Spektren zeigen kaum Kopplung zwischen Alkyl- und AsO3-Gruppe, so daß beide getrennt behandelt warden können. Für die AsO3-Gruppe ergibt sich die Symmetire C3v, wobei jedoch entartete und symmetrische AsO3-Valenzfrequenz sehr dicht beieinander liegen, so daß sie nur im festen Zustand sichtbar gemacht werden können. Im Lithiumsalz werden Frequenzen um 500 cm-1 beobachtet, die als O…Li—O-Valenzchwingungen gedeutet werden müssen (Elektronenmangeleffekt).

The Vibrational Spectra of Methane and Ethanearsonic Acid and Sodium Hydrogenmethanearsonate.The RAMAN spectra of CH3AsO3H2, C2H5AsO3H2 CH3AsO3HN2. 3/2 H2O (solid and in concentrated aqueous solution) and the IR spectra (400 -4000 cm-1) of these solid acids - partially deuterated - and of the hydrogenarsonate are discussed. The very probable symmetry of these compounds is Cs. As the IR spectra show (two strong broad OH valence bands at 2820 and 2350 cm-1; OH deformation frequency at 1220 cm-1), rather strong H-bonds exist in these acid substances.
    Notes: Es werden die RAMAN-Spektren von CH3AsO3H2, C2H5AsO3H2 und CH3AsO3HNa · 3/2 H2O (fest und in gesättigter bzw. konzentrierter wäßriger Lösung) sowie die IR-Spektren (400-4000 cm-1) der festen, zum Teil deuterierten Säuren und des Hydrogenarsonates mitgeteilt und diskutiert. Diese Verbindungen weisen mit sehr großer Wahrscheinlichkeit die Symmetrie Cs auf. Aus dem IR-Spektrum (zwei starke, breite OH-Valenzbanden um 2820 wad 2350 cm-1, die OH-Deformationsschwingung um 1220 cm-1) muß auf die Ausbildung ziemlich starker Wasserstoffbrückenbindungen geschlossen werden.
