Notes: Summary The alternating current values,i dl. sat. corresponding to the saturation point of the surfactants at a potential corresponding to maximum desorption have been determined using tensammetric technique (alternating current polarography). The calibration curves follow an equation of the type of theLangmuir isotherm for all the compounds studied. It is observed that the value ofi dl. sat. thus obtained can be used successfully for comparing the polarity of a series of closely related organic compounds in aqueous solution, which are known to exhibit tensammetric waves.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Oberflächenaktivitäten eng verwandter organischer Verbindungen durch tensammetrische Studien mit der Methode der Wechselstrompolarographie bestimmt.
Notes: Summary Surface activity of closely related organic compounds are compared by utilising the optimum concentrations corresponding to more negative peaks and concentrations required to remove or to suppress less negative reduction peak due to organic compound and due to metal ion to maximum extent instead of tensammetric peak by a. c. polarography. Surface activity measurements are pH dependent. The correlation between optimum concentrations of surface-active substance and the amounts of reducible species would be of great significance in suppressing the polarographic maxima in d. c. polarography.

Notes: Summary The effect of gamma isomer of benzene hexachloride and Telodrin both in absence and presence of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen carriers on shoot and root growth and carboydrate and nitrogen constituents of sugarcane was studied. The pesticides induced shoot emergence and development of tillers and roots. Shoot growth, nitrogen intake and insoluble nitrogen content invariably increased by pesticide application while soluble carbohydrate and soluble nitrogen content of the shoot decreased. Pesticides also increased the water-soluble nitrate content of the soil. The effect of pesticides was not confined to ammonical source of nitrogen rather the pesticides proved equally effective under nitrate source of nitrogen and also in absence of additional nitrogen. Beneficial effect of pesticides on growth and development of sugarcane appears largely on account of more efficient utilisation of soil and fertilizer nitrogen. The results raise an interesting possibility of using these pesticides as growth stimulators to increase the efficiency of sugarcane plants growing under sub-optimal conditions of nitrogen
