Notes: [Auszug] Few bacteria, particularly those of the genera usually found in the mouth, have as yet been recognized in pure culture as able to produce neuraminidase. This enzyme and the other equivalent extracellular glyco-sidases, however, are regularly produced by the mixed oral flora as it exists in saliva ...

Notes: [Auszug] Adult male albino rats (Alderley Park strain) free from specific pathogens were fed a diet containing 0-015 per cent MFQ for 17 weeks and returned to a control diet free of MFQ for a further 4 weeks. Pairs of treated rats were killed at weekly intervals, beginning on the sixth week of feeding, and ...

Notes: [Auszug] GLOW-DISCHARGE polymerization has been known for many years; for example, Linder and Davies1 described the gases and solids formed by some hydrocarbon vapours in a glow discharge. In a more recent article, Brick and Knox2 have described the major features and variables associated with this process. ...

Notes: [Auszug] Aliquots (200 ml. of liquid in all cases) of water, a 25 per cent aqueous suspension of ?Amberlite IRC-50(H)', 7 per cent disodium ethylenedtamine tetraacetate, dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrroiidone, 8 M urea, and 0.6 N sulphuric acid were used to extract 100 g samples of the partially humified ...

Notes: [Auszug] This article is concerned with a modified glow discharge process-based on the mechanism referred to briefly here -for depositing polymer coatings from non-volatile starting materials. Furthermore, the process is easily controlled and produces high quality coatings free of gas phase contaminants. ...

Notes: Summary A homogeneous deformation field, called “pure extension” is introduced. Various applications of this field are considered. Pure extension leads to a reasonable static interpretation of the strong-ellipticity condition in linearised elasticity theory. The response of a compressible elastic material to pure extension is related to the speeds of propagation of infinitesimal plane waves. Finally, a generalised Tension-Extension condition is introduced and discussed.

Notes: Abstract A method is given whereby the twenty-one independent elastic constants in the general linear homogeneous anisotropic elastic body may be measured in a simple systematic manner by using a static homogeneous deformation field called “pure extension”. Two types of test are used throughout.
