Description / Table of Contents:
Several solvates of nickel acetate, e.g. Ni(OOCCH3)2 · H2O, Ni(OOCCH3)2 · 1/2 H2O · 1/2 CH3COOH and Ni(OOCCH3)2 · 1/2 CH3COOH as well as nonsolvated, crystalline Ni(OOCCH3)2 were obtained by heating the tetrahydrate Ni(OOCCH3)2 · 4 H2O in acetic acid, acetic anhydride and mixtures of acetic acid and acetic anhydride, respectively. It is not possible to prepare the nonsolvated, crystalline Ni(OOCCH3)2 by heating the tetrahydrate. The double salt KOOCCH3 · Ni(OOCCH3)2 is prepared from nickel acetate solution in acetic anhydride by addition of KOOCCH3.These nickel compounds have rather high magnetic moments (μeff = 3.1-3.6 BM).
Notes:
