Summary Sublimation on the water bath has been found the most expedient and simplest method of purifying a number of organic substances. The behavior of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), salicylic acid, gallic acid and benzoic acid toward silver salt solutions was found to be characteristic and described. When the solid sodium salts of saccharin, veronal, luminal and theobromine are brought in contact with solutions of mercuric acetate, or mercurous, lead, and silver salts, the reaction products take the form of vegetable or animal organs. The appearance of such products can be applied analytically.
