    Notizen: Abstract To investigate the effect of fructose ingestion on sorbitol and fructose 3-phosphate (F3P) in erythrocytes, we administered 50 g fructose with and without treatment with an aldose reductase inhibitor, epalrestat, to seven healthy, normal-glucose-tolerant, male volunteers aged 20–43 years. The same subjects were given 50 g glucose on another day. The sorbitol and F3P contents in their erythrocytes increased significantly, reaching peak levels at 60 min and 180 min, respectively, following fructose ingestion. On the other hand, glucose ingestion did not cause any statistically significant change in sorbitol content in their erythrocytes, although it significantly elevated their F3P content. Treatment with epalrestat had no significant effect on incremental changes in erythrocyte sorbitol and F3P content following fructose ingestion. This suggests that oral fructose may be converted directly to sorbitol and F3P in erythrocytes instead of being converted via glucose. Thus, the dietary intake of fructose may affect the concentrations of sorbitol and F3P in erythrocytes in normal men.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Die Copolymerisationen von 1,3-Dioxolan mit Tetrahydrofuran, 3,3-Bischlormethyloxetan und 4-Chlormethyl-1,3-Dioxolan wurden mit Borfluoridätherat als Katalysator durchgeführt. Die Copolymerisationsparameter bei 0°C wurden bestimmt. Die Auftragung 1/r1 gegen pKb eines jeden Monomeren ergab eine Gerade, was darauf schließen läßt, daß die Basizität bei der Bestimmung der Copolymerisationsparameter der kationischen Polymerisation wichtig ist.
    Notizen: Copolymerization of 1,3-dioxolane with tetrahydrofuran, 3,3-bis(chloromethyl)oxacyclobutane, and 4-chloromethyl-1,3-dioxolane were performed using boron fluoride etherate as catalyst. The monomer reactivity ratios at 0°C. were determined. The plot of log 1/r1 vs. pKb of each monomer gave a straight line, which suggests that basicity of cyclic ethers may be important in determining monomer reactivity ratios in their cationic copolymerization.

    Notizen: This paper reports studies on polystyrene/poly-(vinylmethylether) blends to elucidate phase decomposition phenomena. Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and temperature jump light scattering (TJLS) techniques were used to study both static and kinetic properties. The SANS methods were used to characterize the blends with respect to phase diagram, the Flory-Huggins interaction parameter, and the critical fluctuation length as a function of temperature. From the TJLS experiments, we have demonstrated the possibility of two kinds of phase decomposition mechanisms which should lead to distinct morphology and material properties.

    Notizen: Poly(oxytrimethylene) (POT) has been found to form inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins to give crystalline compounds in high yields. The yields of the complexes of POT with α-cyclodextrin increased with increase in the molecular weight of POT, reached a maximum at a molecular weight of about 1000, and then decreased with the molecular weight. The stoichiometries are 1:1.5-2 (CD:monomer unit) when the molecular weight of POT is less than 2000. β-Cyclodextrin gave complexes with POT in a 1:2-2.5 ratio when the average molecular weights were less than 2000. When the molecular weight of the polymer was higher than 3000, the ratio of the monomer unit to cyclodextrin increased with increase in the molecular weight. The binding modes are discussed.
