Notes: Abstract Inclusive break-up cross sections of the reactions12C (6Li,a)X and208Pb (6Li,a)X at 26 MeV/amu, observed for the emission of break-up fragment into the forward hemisphere, are analysed in view of the information about the internal momentum distribution of the projectile. The longitudinal momentum distribution of the fragments in the projectile rest-frame is found to reflect the internal momentum distribution of the clusters whereas the transverse distribution is affected by the projectile-target interaction.

Notes: Abstract The continuum part of the6Li (a,a′)6Li (1.47–2.47 MeV) scattering data at Ea=50 MeV are extracted in two discretized bins. Coupled-channel calculations are carried out coupling the 1+ ground state of6Li with both the resonant, 3+ 1 state, and two non-resonant continuum states. The discretized continuum of the6Li (p,p′)6Li (1.75–3.25 MeV) scattering data at Ep=65 MeV are also analysed on the same footing. In both the cases the effect of coupling is found to be minimal.

Notes: Abstract Isotope shifts and hyperfine splittings in optical transitions for atomic ions of the thorium isotopes227Th to230Th and232Th have been measured by laser spectroscopy on stored ions. From the isotope shift data, changes of the mean square charge radii are determined. A continuous increase of the charge radius with mass numberA is observed, in agreement with droplet model calculations. The results indicate that the odd-even staggering for Th is different from that one of the neighbouring isotones of Fr and Ra. There is some empirical evidence from systematics for an inversion of the staggering and the appearance of an octupole deformation atN ≦137. The hyperfine splitting for229Th for 3 electronic levels is given.

Notes: Abstract The elastic and inelastic scattering of 156 MeV6Li projectiles from6Li is studied experimentally and theoretically. The experimental differential cross sections are analyzed by the method of coupled discretized continuum channels in which resonant and non-resonant break-up states of6Li are taken into account explicitly. The measured cross sections are simultaneously reproduced quite well by the calculations. Coupling effects of the break-up states are found to play an important role for the scattering.
