Notes: Abstract The purpose of the investigation was: 1) to derive the characteristic curves of Kodak, DuPont, Fuji, and Konica duplicating films; and 2) to compare their sensitivities, inherent contrasts, and latitudes. For statistical analysis the multivariate general linear model in Systat 4.1 with Sygraph was run on a Northgate 386/20 microcomputer. Kodak film had the highest Dmax, followed by those of Fuji, Konica and DuPont films. Fuji film was the most sensitive at higher densities whereas Kodak film was the most sensitive at lower densities, Konica and DuPont films were comparatively less sensitive. DuPont film had the highest inherent contrast, followed by Kodak, Konica, and Fuji films. Fuji film had the widest latitude, followed by Konica, Kodak, and DuPont films. The results of the experiment should not be construed as a recommendation for any particular type of duplicating film. The results might have been different if a different range of densities had been evaluated.

Notes: Abstract Fibrous dysplasia is a relatively rare tumorous lesion in the maxillofacial region. The radiographic appearance of this lesion varies widely in the jaw. Generally, the occurrence rate is higher in the maxilla than in the mandible. The purpose of this study was to report six cases of fibrous dysplasia associated with the maxillary sinus. In this study, we examined radiographic patterns which demonstrated the lesion's affect on the sinus radiographically. Mixed radiopacity and radiolucency (the so-called ground glass appearance) was also seen in each of these cases. In four cases in which CT images were obtained, the lesion showed buccal expansion and infiltration into the maxillary sinus.

Notes: Abstract A case of twins, one of whom suffered from biliary atresia, is described herein. Although the patient had been doing well until 11 years of age after previously undergoing a primary hepatic portoenterostomy, she had to then undergo a liver transplantation due to severe refractory cholangitis at 14 years of age. Although the patient's intellectual performance had severely declined due to the progression of her illness for several years, it completely recovered after the liver transplantation. In cases where the physical development in childhood has been well preserved, liver transplantation might therefore offer the chance for a full recovery of deteriorated intellectual performance.
