Zusammenfassung Als Amazonensyndrom wird nach Analyse von 36 eigenen Fällen eine umfassende Hemmungsmißbildung einer oberen Extremitätenknospe erkannt, deren Leitsymptom die einseitige Agenesie der weiblichen Brust in Verbindung mit gleichseitiger Brachysindaktylie und unterschiedlich ausgeprägter Gewebedysplasie der dazugehörigen Schultergürtel und Thoraxseite darstellt. Klinische Klassifizierung und Therapie werden aufgezeigt.

Summary The Amazon Syndrom describes a complex malformation comprising unilateral agenesis of the female breast, ipsilateral symbrachydactyly with various soft-tissue, muscular, and skeletal defects. Analysis of 36 of the authors own cases, revealed agenesis of one breast as the main symptom of this deformity, which is the result of arrested development of an upper extremity bud during early gestation. Clinical grading of the malformation and appropriate surgical treatment are described.
