    Notizen: Abstract The energy gap structure of the cuprates depends strongly on levels of doping. The stoichiometric compoundYBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 displays a peculiar two-gap structure. Oxygen depletion is accompanied by the transition to the gapless state, and this is manifested in various transport, electromagnetic, etc. properties of the material. The temperature dependence of the penetration depth correlates with oxygen content and is characterized by various power laws in an oxygen depleted sample. In other cuprates, overdoping leads to gaplessness and a peculiar dependence of Hc2.

    Notizen: Abstract A nonisotopic ribosomal DNA fingerprinting technique was developed for the characterization of Listeria monocytogenes. Plasmid pKK3535 (a pBR322-derived plasmid containing rrnB ribosomal RNA operon of Escherichia coli) was labeled with digoxigenin-II-dUTP by random priming and used to probe EcoRI fragments of L. monocytogenes chromosomal DNA on nylon filters. The method was successfully applied to the characterization of two sets of patient and food isolates of L. monocytogenes.

    Notizen: Summary This paper presents a rock mechanics design methodology applicable to steeply dipping orebodies typical of many underground hardrock mines. The first stage in the design process is the characterization of the rock mass using bothin situ and laboratory data. The effects of anisotropy on rock mass behaviour are discussed with reference to laboratory and field observations. The second stage involves the use of a number of selected numerical modelling techniques to investigate ground response in the near-field rock mass surrounding the mining excavations. This study shows that the use of several numerical methods in conjunction, allowing for the advantages of each method to be maximized, provides a more comprehensive analysis of the different facets of stope design. This approach differs from those in the literature which seek to compare the different numerical methods in order to select just one method best suited for a problem. The design methodology employed emphasizes the importance of developing an understanding of ground deformation mechanisms as opposed to predicting absolute behaviour.

    Notizen: The fluid flow field within an enclosed cylindrical chamber with a rotating flat disc was calculated using a finite volume computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model and compared with particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements. Two particular laminar cases near the Transitional flow regime were investigated: Reynolds number Re=2.5×1 4, chamber aspect ratio G (h/Rd)=0.2 and Re=4.2×104, G (h/Rd)=0.217. This enabled direct comparison with the numerical and experimental results reported by other researchers. The computational details and some major factors that affect the computed accuracy and convergence speed are also discussed in detail. PIV results containing some 4300 velocity vector points in each of seven planes for each case were obtained from the flow field parallel to the rotating disc. It was found that PIV results could be obtained in planes within the boundary layers as well as the core flow by careful use of a thin laser illumination sheet and correct choice of laser pulse separation. There was close agreement between numerical results, the present PIV measurements and other reported experimental and numerical results.
