Diese Komplexe wurden mittels Elektronen- und Infrarot-Spektren und magnetischen Messungen charakterisiert.

    Notizen: NMR and Mössbauer spectroscopy show that a novel tetrathiol ligand, based on the cavitand diphenylglycoluril, encapsulates a 4Fe-4S cluster and induces asymmetry in it. The cluster gives a weak electrochemical current response in DMF, with a half-wave potential for the 2-/3- reduction vs. Fc+/Fc of -1.7 V. Ba2+ ions are adsorbed, according to X-ray analysis of the SEM image of the electrode, and act as modulator and promoter of the electrochemical response. On the basis of cyclic voltammograms it is proposed that this adsorption creates electroactive sites, changing the type of diffusion controlling the mass transport to the electrode from radial to linear, and that it helps the negatively charged complex, which contains a dipole, to approach the negative electrode in an orientation favourable for electron exchange. This feature makes the complex an important model for ferredoxins, in spite of a difference in redox potential.

    Notizen: The application of the high precision triangular plate bending element to problems with curved boundaries is considered. Appropriate edge conditions for nodal points on these boundaries are derived. The error inherent in representing the shape of a curved boundary by a series of straight segments is found to be the limiting factor on accuracy, while the effect of approximations in the actual boundary conditions is minor. To overcome the first type of error, the high precision element is modified to include one curved edge. Substantial improvements in accuracy are obtained, as demonstrated in example calculations for circular and elliptical plates.

    Notizen: A plasticity theory for porous metals is proposed. A simple model of a porous materials is analysed by the finite element method. Small strain elastic-plastic analysis provides stress-strain curves, yield stressed and incremental plastic strain vectors for different void ratios. An assessment is made of an existing yield criterion for porous metals. A modified yield criterion and plastic potential function and, consequently, different plasticity equations are given. Reasonable agreement is obtained between the present numerical results and previous results in the literature.

    Notizen: A commonly adopted procedure to solve a structural optimum design problem is to improve the design iteratively by solving a sequence of simpler problems, where each of these is obtained as an approximation of the original problem. Considering structures with linear response, this procedure works very well and can be implemented quite straightforwardly. However, considering structures with non-linear response, the situation is more sophisticated since structural stability properties have to be taken into account.The paper presents an approach to optimal design of statically loaded structures with non-linear response. It is proposed to replace the original problem with a sequence of similar problems from which corresponding approximate problems can easily be obtained. These similar problems additionally contain an estimation of the critical load constraint while other constraints are imposed at some properly chosen load level, which is lower or at most equal to the critical load level. By this approach, the structural stability requirements are taken into account in an effective manner. The efficiency is illustrated with several examples involving kinematic as well as material non-linear effects.

    Notizen: The frequently used reduced integration method for solving incompressible flow problems ‘a la penalty’ is critically examined vis-a-vis the consistent penalty method. For the limited number of quadrilateral and hexahedral elements studied, it is shown that the former method is only equivalent to the latter in certain special cases. In the general case, the consistent penalty method is shown to be more accurate. Finally, we demonstrate significant advantages of a new element, employing biquadratic (2-D) or triquadratic (3-D) velocity and linear pressure over that using the same velocity but employing bilinear (2-D) or trilinear (3-D) pressure approximation.

    Notizen: A method is outlined for solving two-dimensional transonic viscous flow problems, in which the velocity vector is split into the gradient of a potential and a rotational component. The approach takes advantage of the fact that for high-Reynolds-number flows the viscous terms of the Navier-Stokes equations are important only in a thin shear layer and therefore solution of the full equations may not be needed everywhere. Most of the flow can be considered inviscid and, neglecting the entropy and vorticity effects, a potential model is a good approximation in the flow core. The rotational part of the flow can then be calculated by solution of the potential, streamfunction and vorticity transport equations. Implementation of the no-slip and no-penetration boundary conditions at the walls provides a simple mechanism for the interaction between the viscous and inviscid solutions and no extra coupling procedures are needed. Results are presented for turbulent transonic internal choked flows.
