[Si bipy3]Br4 a Novel Ionic Tris-2,2′-Bipyridine Complex of SiliconThe new tris-2,2′-bipyridine complex [Si bipy3]Br4 has been isolated from the products of the reaction of Si2Br6 with 2,2′-bipyridine. Conductivity, PMR, UV and IR investigations have shown this compound to be ionic consisting of bromide anions and [Si bipy3]4+ cations in aqueous solution. Si is octahedrally coordinated by three bipyridines. The compound is not attacked by water, aqueous acid solutions or methanol. It is decomposed by alkaline solutions.
    Notes: Der neue Tris-2,2′-Bipyridin-Komplex [Si bipy3]Br4 wird aus den Produkten der Reaktion von Si2Br6 mit 2,2′-Bipyridin isoliert. Leitfähigkeits-, PMR-, UV- und IR-Untersuchungen zeigen, daß die Verbindung ionisch aufgebaut ist und in wäßriger Lösung in Form von Bromidanionen und [Si bipy3]4+-Kationen vorliegt. Im Kation ist Si von drei Bipyridin-Molekülen oktaedrisch umgeben. Die Verbindung wird durch Wasser, wäßrige Säuren und Methanol nicht angegriffen. In alkalischer Lösung tritt dagegen Zersetzung ein.

    Description / Table of Contents: Contributions to the Chemistry of Halogenosilane Adducts. IV.[Si( OCH3)2bipy2]Cl2 and [Si( OH)2bipy2]CI2. Bis - 2 2 - Bipyridine Complexes of Silicon with Unexpected Properties.The new bis-2, 2-bipyridine (bipy) complexes of silicon [SiX2bipy2]Cl2 (X = OCH3 OH) are obtained by the reaction of SiCl2bipy2 (green isomer) with methanol and water. The compounds have unexpected properties. They may be solved in water or methanol without decomposition. In aqueous solutions they are strong 1:2 electrolytes. Structural investigations have shown that they are composed of cis-octahedral [SiX2bipy212+ cations and chloride-anions.
    Notes: Durch Reaktion von SiCl2bipy2 (grünes Isomeres) mit Methanol und Wasser wurden die neuen Bis- 2-Bipyridin-(bipy)-Komplexe des Siliciums [SiX2bipy2]C12 (X = OCH3, OH) erhalten, die unerwartete Eigenschaften haben. Sie losen sich unzersetzt In Wasser und Methanol. In wäßrigem Medium sind sie starke 1:2 Elektrolyte. Strukturuntersuchungen zeigen, daß sie aus cis-oktaedrischen [SiX2bipy2l2+-Kationen und Chloridanionen aufgebaut sind.
