    Notizen: Abstract Results of previous studies have indicated that the rostral superior colliculus (SC) plays an important part in the control of accommodation. The present study was carried out to investigate retinal projections to the accommodation-related area in the rostral SC. We injected WGA-HRP into the accommodation-related area in the rostral SC of the cat, where accommodative responses were elicited by stimulation with weak currents of less than 20 μA. Following injection of WGA-HRP into the accommodation-related area in the rostral SC, retrogradely labeled ganglion cells were observed mainly in the area centralis. Projections from the contralateral eye were denser than those from the ipsilateral eye. Almost all retrogradely labeled cells were classified as γ-cells owing to their small cell-body diameters and thin dendrites, although a few were classified as α-cells. These findings suggest that the accommodation-related area in the rostral SC is located in the portion corresponding to the area of representation of the central visual field and receives mainly γ-cell projections

    Notizen: Abstract Several Leonid fireballs were successfully photographed by the Japanese Fireball Network and by other observers in Japan on 16 November, 1996. A totals of seven of these were simultaneously observed from two or more stations, from which the orbital and physical data were deduced. The radiant of these fireballs were very small, only 0.1°, similar to that of the 1991 Perseids. The 1996 Leonids showed a lower magnitude distribution index similar to those obtained in the 1961 and 1965 Leonids. All of these showers occurred before perihelion passage of the parent comet. We conclude that we have already encountered the elongated front part of the dust trail of the Leonid parent comet, where the trail is probably composed of larger dust particles.

    Notizen: o-Cresol novolac-type epoxy resins having hydroxymethyl group were synthesized. These epoxy resins were cured with a mixture of 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane and m-phenylenediamine (molar ratio, 6:4) as a hardener. Effects of molecular weight distribution of epoxy resins on curing behavior were studied. Curing behavior of epoxy resins with hardener were examined by differential scanning calorimetery (DSC), and cure reaction parameters were obtained. Viscoelastic properties of the cured epoxy resins were studied by dynamic mechanical analyzer. It was found that the lower the average molecular weight of the epoxy resin, that is, the higher the concentration of hydroxymethyl group, the shorter the onset time of exothermal reaction, the higher the rate constant (k), and the lower the activation energy (Ea) were. It was also found that glass transition temperature (Tg) of fully cured epoxy resins was higher than those of fully cured general novolac-type epoxy resins.
