Fully aromatic, siloxane-modified polybenzimidazoles and polybenzoxazoles were prepared by a single-stage melt polymerization and characterized. These polymers, which have good solubility in pyridine and N-methylpyrrolidinone, undergo thermooxidative decomposition above 300°C. Model compounds for these two classes as well as polypyromellitimides were also prepared.
