Notes:
Abstract Amino groups of proteins can be alkylated by reaction with a variety of aldehydes or ketones in the presence of several different mild reducing agents. Because reductive alkylation occurs under mild conditions and has relatively minor effects on most proteins, it is becoming one of the more important methods for protein modification. This report discusses some of the recent applications of this reaction.
