Abstract The partial differential equations of the velocity and temperature fields of laminar flow in heated or cooled circular tubes are coupled because of the temperature dependent properties of the fluid. For solving this system of nonlinear differential equations a finite difference method is given, in which the local linearization of the equations is corrected by iteration. The derivation of the difference equations and their solution are described for variable initial and boundary conditions. The isothermal flow in the inlet of the tube and the deformation of the velocity profiles with heat transfer by the temperature dependent viscosity are given as examples.
Notes:
