Notizen: Pseudobinary Pr1−xTbx(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 (0≤x≤0.4) cubic Laves single phases have been synthesized by melt spinning and subsequent annealing. Their structure, magnetic properties and stability have been investigated. The composition, at which the anisotropy of Pr1−xTbx(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 is compensated, is close to x=0.1. The spontaneous magnetostrictions λ111 of Pr0.9Tb0.1(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 and Pr0.8Tb0.2(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 are larger than 1500×10−6 and 1900×10−6, respectively. Pr1−xTbx(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 (0.1≤x≤0.4) ribbon-based materials with 3% epoxy resin combine high magnetostriction with significant magnetic coercivity. Pr0.9Tb0.1(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 is a promising magnetostrictive material. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A La-deficient manganite perovskite sample La0.54Ca0.32MnO3−δ was prepared by conventional solid-state reaction method. The Curie temperature TC is 272 K, about 10 K higher than that of La1−xCaxMnO3. A large magnetic entropy change has been observed and the maximum −ΔSM(approximate)2.9 J/kg K appears at its Curie temperature upon a 0.9 T magnetic field change. The easy fabrication and higher chemical stability make La0.54Ca0.32MnO3−δ a suitable candidate as a working substance in magnetic refrigeration technology. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: The structure and magnetic properties of PrFe10Mo2Nx compounds prepared by melt spinning have been investigated. A single-phase structure of ThMn12-like has been obtained in ribbons quenched at velocities vs below 40 m/s. The desired ThMn12 structure is considerably more stable for Pr(Fe, Mo)12 compounds than for Nd(Fe, Mo)12 compounds. Only at higher speeds than 50 m/s the PrFe10Mo2 ribbons quench into TbCu7-like compound of which Curie temperature is about 580 K. Annealing temperatures in excess of 1023 K are required to form ThMn12 crystal structure for the ribbons melt spun at 50 m/s. Upon nitrogenation at 723 K, the Curie temperatures increase to 663 and 580 K for TbCu7- and ThMn12-like nitrides, respectively. A coercivity of 3.3 kOe with a magnetization up to 118 emu/g at a field of 20 kOe has been obtained in the present ribbons. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A series of Fe45.51(Al2O3)54.49 (volume fraction) nanogranular films were prepared using the ion-beam sputtering technique. A saturated Hall resistivity of about 12.5 μΩ cm was observed at room temperature. With different annealing temperature TA up to 300 °C, the saturated Hall resistivity of the sample decreases only a little, which shows good thermal stability. The transmission electron microscopy image shows that very small Fe particles (smaller than 1 nm) embedded in the Al2O3 matrix, and connected into the network, with the ρ–T curve indicates that this Hall effect may originate from the percolation phenomenon. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A series of Co35(SiO2)65 (volume fraction) nanogranular films were prepared by ion-beam sputtering at room temperature. A tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) of about 4% at room temperature was observed. With applied magnetic field of about 1.5×103 Oe parallel to the plane of substrates during fabrication, the TMR ratio of the sample increased up to about 5% at room temperature. The results of ferromagnetic resonance showed that the isolated Co particles embedded in the SiO2 matrix were pancake-like in shape. Thus the discrepancy of TMR between the applied magnetic field parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the sample may be due to shape-induced anisotropy. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: In perovskite manganites La0.7−xNdxCa0.3MnO3 (x=0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.20) prepared by the sol–gel technique, large magnetocaloric effects have been observed. The maximum of the magnetic entropy change peaks at the magnetic ordering temperature. Compared to La0.7Ca0.3MnO3, an enhancement of the magnetocaloric effect has been obtained in the samples with Nd3+ dopant (for La0.5Nd0.2Ca0.3MnO3, the maximum of ΔSM is about −2.31 J/kg K). © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: The magnetic behavior of Nd10Fe84−xB6Inx (x=0,1,2) nanocomposites was investigated. It was found that a certain amount of indium (x=1) added to Nd10Fe84B6 magnets enhances the hard magnetic properties. The optimum coercivity and remanence ratio was increased from 5.0 kOe and 0.71 to 5.8 kOe and 0.83, respectively. The squareness of the hysteresis loop is improved greatly. The maximum magnetic energy product (BH)max increases remarkably from 12 to 18 MGOe. The origin for those enhancements is mainly attributed to the magnetically softened grain boundaries and enhanced crystallographical coherency by indium addition. The magnetic annealing is found to be helpful to enhance the coherency and coupling between hard and soft phases. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Pr(Fe0.6Co0.4)2 ribbons were prepared by melt spinning with different wheel speeds from 35 to 45 m/s. Their structure, magnetic properties, and thermal stability are investigated. At a wheel speed of 35 m/s, the ribbon consists of a mixture of Pr(Fe,Co)2 cubic Laves phase and some noncubic phases. An almost Pr(Fe,Co)2 nanocrystalline single phase with a Curie temperature of 305 °C is obtained at a wheel speed of 40 m/s. Except for Pr(FeCo)2 phase a small amount of amorphous phase is observed with increasing wheel speeds to 45 m/s. Pr(Fe,Co)2 phase becomes unstable and decomposes above 770 °C. The resin-bonded Pr(Fe,Co)2 nanocrystalline phase which is obtained at a wheel speed of 40 m/s combines high magnetostriction (λ(parallel)−λ⊥=140 ppm), with significant coercivity, iHc=5 kOe. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Magnetic field-induced magnetic and electrical transition from the antiferromagnetic nonmetal phase to the paramagnetic metal phase takes place in Ni1−xFexS (x=0, 0.12, 0.2, and 0.3). Large magnetoresistance (MR) was observed near room temperature, MR=730% for x=0.12 at 299 K in a magnetic field of 4 T. The large MR is related to the field-induced nonmetal–metal transition. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A series of bulk polycrystalline La1−xAgxMnO3 samples with x ranging nominally from 0 to 0.5 were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction processing in air. X-ray diffraction patterns show that the samples contain a single perovskite phase when x≤0.25, and are composed of two phases (a magnetic perovskite phase and a nonmagnetic Ag-rich phase) for x〉0.25. It is found that, in this series of polycrystalline samples, maximum magnetoresistance occurs for x=0.30, i.e., for a composite of the two phases whose magnetoresistance ratio is about 25.5% at room temperature. The enhancement of the magnetoresistance effect in such an inhomogeneous granular system can be attributed to the spin-dependent scattering of electrons at the interface of the two phases. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
