Notizen: Abstract Pharmacological evidence has suggested the presence of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin), 5-HT1D receptors on endothelial cells but these receptors have never been identified unambiguously on this type of cells. We now report that human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) express 5-HT1D receptors coupled to inhibition of cyclic AMP formation. 5-HT and the 5-HT1D receptor agonists 5-carboxamidotryptamine (5-CT) and sumatriptan were approximately equipotent at inhibiting forskolin-stimulated cyclic AMP accumulation in HUVEC (mean pEC50 7.6–8.2, maximal effect 30% inhibition). The 5-HT1A receptor agonist, 8-OH-DPAT was clearly less potent (pEC50 6.2) and less efficacious. The selective 5-HT1D receptor antagonist, GR127935 (1 nM) markedly inhibited the effect of 5-HT (apparent pKB 10.8). Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis showed the mRNA for 5-HT1Dβ receptors to be expressed in HUVEC. These results demonstrate the presence of functional 5-HT1D receptors and the expression of 5-HT1Dβ receptor mRNA in HUVEC. They support the involvement of 5-HT1Dβ receptors in endothelial-mediated responses to 5-HT.

Notizen: Abstract Double-differential emission probabilities P (E, θ) in angle θ and energy E of protons, tritons, and α-particles were measured in the case of spontaneous fission of252Cf. A detector system consisting of position-sensitive parallel-plate avalanche counters (PPAC) and ΔE−E-telescopes allowed a coincidence measurement of fission fragments (FF) and light charged particles (LCP) in the whole region from 0 deg. to 180 deg. with respect to the light-fragment direction. Previous results for α-particle emission were confirmed. The background contributions for protons are discussed in detail. For proton emission the background arising from (n, p)-reactions was measured and compared with a corresponding Monte-Carlo simulation of elastic (n, p)-clusions. Unlike for tritons and a-particles the P (E, θ) distribution for protons does not show equatorial peaking in 0 between 80 deg. and 90 deg. and contradicts classical scission point emission. The proton distribution, however, agrees with fragment de-excitation calculations in the framework of the cascade evaporation model (CEM) whereas an analogous calculation forα-particles completely fails. Upper limits for an additional scission component of proton emission are given.

Notizen: Abstract Emission distributions P(E,θ) in energy E and angle θ of protons (p), tritons (t), and ∝-particles released in spontaneous fission of 252-Cf have been measured. Whereas the experimental data for t and ∝ indicate the expected tripartition as the predominant mode, p emission has been found to be due to fragment de-excitation from highly excited, rapidly moving fragments mainly.
