Notizen: Abstract The concentration dependences of the binding of fusicoccins (FCs) A, B, C, D, J and H to plasma membranes isolated from maize (Zea mays L.) roots have been studied in parallel with the effects of these compounds on elongation and 86Rb transport in detached maize roots. The dissociation constants obtained showed a good correlation between the affinity of the FCs for the plasmalemma and their biological activity. However, the range of physiologically active FC concentrations proved to be about two orders of magnitude higher than that calculated from the dissociation constants. It was also shown that Vicia faba L. mesophyll protoplasts, unlike isolated plasma membranes, have two FC-binding sites, one with a K D similar to that of the isolated plasmalemma while the other has a substantially higher K D , apparently corresponding to the physiologically active state of the FC-binding proteins.

Notizen: Conductivity and dielectric constant of a three-component 0-3 composite of epoxy resin-barium titanate-carbon black (0-3 composites are systems in which the filler is in the form of 0-dimensional (point-like, disperse) particles in a three-dimensional polymeric matrix1) have been investigated both at DC and the frequency range of 20-106 c/s. The effect of barium titanate concentration on percolation threshold, critical indices and the mechanism of conduction has been examined. An attempt was made to describe the electrical properties of composites with models originally developed for two-component systems' dielectric-conductor. With increasing barium titanate concentration the agreement of experimentally found frequency dependencies of conductivity and dielectric constant with models based on Debye's equation was found to degrade. An adequate description of electrical properties of composites' dielectric-ferroelectric-conductor should be based on the Havriliak-Negami equation.
Notizen: The results of an investigation of structural and thermophysical properties of polymer composite materials made of low pressure polyethylene and colloid graphite by means of different technological processes are presented. On the base of the obtained results the possibility of prediction and regulation of the thermophysical properties of the studied materials is discussed.

Notizen: The process of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) formation in the presence of dicarboxylic acids has been studied. Certain amounts of terephthalic acid (TPA) have two- to threefold accelerating efficiency in the polycondensation process. To elucidate the causes of the acceleration the main reactions leading to PET formation in the presence of dicarboxylic acids have been investigated by the use of models. The evaluation of kinetic and equilibrium parameters obtained for model reactions made it possible to conclude that the influence of carboxyl-containing additives on the apparent rate of polycondensation manifests itself in accelerating direct reactions and facilitating the liberation of the eliminated by-product; that is, ethylene glycol (EG) from the polymer melt. Carboxylic acid acts as a catalyst on the ester interchange of 2-hydroxyethyl ester end groups and thus increases the rate of polymer formation in this reaction 10-40 times. The parallel interaction between the 2-hydroxyethyl ester end group and the carboxyl group of the added acid is also catalyzed by the acid and its rate constant is four times larger than that of the catalytic polycondensation of 2-hydroxyethyl ester end groups. Unlike EG, the reaction water formed in the process is more readily removed from the reaction system and thus promotes the intensification of the process. In addition, the carboxyl groups react with the eliminated EG to decrease its amount and shift the equilibrium toward polymer formation. The investigation of the consequent parallel reactions on models made it possible to draw a conclusion about the higher reactivity of 2-hydroxyethyl esters in the esterification processes. This fact has been explained by strengthening the nucleophilicity of the oxygen atom in the hydroxyl of a 2-hydroxyethyl ester group compared with that of EG; for example, by the formation of an intramolecular cycle involving a hydrogen bond. Simultaneously, it has been found that in the system simulating PET polycondensation in the presence of dicarboxylic acids the reaction mechanism involves the catalysis by a proton formed during the carboxyl group dissociation and accepted by the 2-hydroxyethyl ester group.
