Notes: Manufacturing enterprises need to manage many inventory items. To effectively managethe inventory, a usual practice is to classify the inventory items into several groups and use differentmanagement strategies for the items in different groups. ABC classification has been widely used, and has evolved into various multi-criteria classification schemes. Recently, a few multi-criteriaABC classification approaches using variable weights appeared in the literature. This paper analyzestheir properties and proposes an improved approach. A numerical example is included to illustratethe appropriateness of the proposed approach

Notes: A good method for dispersing Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) in LDPE matrixby melt processing technique had been developed. The surface of MWNTs was modified by HNO3,then, treated with γ-aminopropyltriethoxy Silane. The surface-modified MWNTs homogeneousLDPE composites with 0-0.35 mass fraction MWNTs loading had been evaluated for electricalconductivity. The composites’ electrical conductivity (σDC) was improved for the good dispersion ofMWNTs in LDPE matrix. The values of σDC obeyed a percolation power law with MWNTsconcentration threshold 0.10 mass fraction. 10-2 s/cm conductivity for 0.15 mass fraction MWNTsloading indicated that the composites could be used as lightweight electrostatic shielding materials

Notes: Thermal insulating latex paint for exterior wall was prepared by water as dispersing media, polyacrylic emulsion as basic material, defibered sepiolite and hollow glass microspheres as main functional additives. The thermal insulation effect and mechanism were studied by thermal insulation effect testing device and visible light reflectance tester. The results show that the optimum contents of functional additives are as follows: 8% defibred sepiolite fibers, 6% hollow glass microspheres. The coating could arrest heat transmission and reflect visible light effectively

Notes: Bioactive glasses are known to have the ability to regenerate bone, but their use has been restricted mainly to powder, granules, or small monoliths. This work reports on the development of bioactive glasses with macroporosity of controlled size and volume through sol-gel and pore forming technologies. The macroporous structure (greater than 100µm) can provide the potential for tissueingrowth. Simultaneously the samples exhibit mesoporous (2-50nm) texture and high specific surface which can enhance bioactivity and release of ionic products. The most important advantage is that these samples show satisfactory mechanical strength. This method should be a useful approach for preparation scaffolds with applications to repair and reconstruct damaged tissue

Notes: The purpose of this study is to find out the AE characteristics and fracture mechanismsthrough AE signal analysis for the weldment, PWHT specimen and basemetal of the pressure vesselsteel. Charpy sized specimens were taken from the multi-passed weld block. Specimens were givento four point bend and AE tests. Lots of AE signals were emitted from the weldment compared withthe basemetal and PWHT specimen. Besides, amplitude for the weldment was the largest, followedby PWHT specimen and basemetal and more AE counts for the weldment were emitted in theprocess of deformation. Lots of microcracks around the notch for the weldment were formed so thatmore AE signals were produced. In addition, second phase particle such as MgO for the basemetalacts as AE source. However, in case of weldment, debonding mechanisms between matrix and hardoxides which are formed during welding in air attributed to the emission of AE signals and softenedparticles for the PWHT specimen cause to produce the low level AE signals

Notes: The strain aging of heavily drawn pearlitic steel wires has been studied by means ofelectrical resistivity mearsurement. The kinetic of the early stage of strain aging after being drawn totrue strain 2.89 is described by a Johnson-Mehl equation. The apparent activation energy ΔH isestimated as 31.7kJ/mol. The results indicate that the mechanism of the early stage of strain aging ofheavily drawn pearlitic steel correlates with the formation of interstitial solute atoms-vacancy pairs

Notes: A viscoplastic constitutive model with void damage is developed to analyze themacroscopic mechanical response and damage mechanism of lead-free solder alloy in CBGApackaging under cyclic thermal loading. The constitutive model is implemented into ABAQUSthrough its user defined material subroutine. Two-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis of aceramic ball grid array(CBGA) package is conducted to simulate the viscoplastic deformation anddamage failure process of the lead-free solder joint under cyclic thermal loading. The damage modelis helpful for optimization and reliability of electronic package

Notes: Fiber-reinforced plastics consist of fibers of high strength and modulus embedded in, orbonded to a matrix with distinct interfaces between them. Because fiber configuration plays a key rolein determining mechanical strength of fiber-reinforced plastic rods, especially bending strength offiber-reinforced plastic rods was measured and simulated numerically in variation with windingangles. Also, stress distribution in fiber-reinforced plastic rods was simulated numerically under thecondition of constant bending load to fiber-reinforced plastic rods. The measured bending strength offiber-reinforced plastic rods in variation with winding angles was different from that of simulated. The difference between measured and simulated results was due to the effect of shear stresses on thestrength of fiber-reinforced plastic rods

Notes: Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) has become a hot issue because of aging of passivecomponents. Ultrasonic Technique (UT) has been adopted to inspect the secondary piping. UT,however, covers only narrow region, which results in numerous detecting points and thus takestime. In this paper, we suggested a Wide Range Monitoring (WiRM) concept with EquipotentSwitching Direct Current Potential Drop (S-DCPD) method to monitor the thickness of piping.Since the DCPD method covers area, not a point, it needs less monitoring points. We use the SDCPDmethod to screen the candidate area to monitor. Based on the monitoring results, we candetermine the inspection area. To improve the applicability to the piping system, we suggested theEquipotent concept, which eliminates the leakage current. Finite element analysis results anddeveloped resistance model are presented for the simple analysis to describe the wall thinning byDCPD signals. And also validation test results are presented, from which we can identify theconsistency of the model and the experiment

Notes: Two types of load carrying fillet weldment, which are typical weld joints in ship structures, wereexamined under out-of-plane bending load by using structural stress approach. Finite element analyses usingboth solid and shell elements models have been performed for the assessment of fatigue strength. Basis forthe derivation of structural stress method is discussed in detail. The calculated structural stress values for thefatigue strength evaluation of load carrying fillet weldments are independent of mesh size. In this study, drawbacks and doubts associated with applying the structural method such as the guidance of virtual nodemethod and the application of three-dimensional equilibrium condition for solid model have been discussedaccompanied by various case studies. In order to solve the problem of the solid model, the alternative methodfor solid model by using the equilibrium condition of the nodal force has been introduced
