Notizen: Abstract We report a partially thrombosed giant of the aneurysm basilar artery with prominent mass effect, diagnosed in an 11 year-old child who presented with neurological deficits due to brain stem compression. After the patent portion of the aneurysm was embolised with Guglielmi detachable coils, remarkable clinical improvement occurred. Angiography demonstrated complete occlusion of the aneurysm and MRI revealed dramatic shrinkage of the aneurysm at 6-month and 1-year follow-up.

Notizen: Abstract. Segmental pancreatitis is an unusual form of acute pancreatitis mostly seen in the head of pancreas. We present the CT findings of a segmental pancreatitis in the body and tail of the pancreas developed following endovascular embolization of a giant hepatic artery aneurysm and arterioportal fistula in a patient with Behçet's disease.

Notizen: Abstract A right pelvic kidney was observed in a patient, who presented with hypertension. On angiograms, the left kidney was normally positioned and had a single renal artery, whereas the right pelvic kidney received three arteries, which arose from bilateral common iliac arteries and from ipsilateral internal iliac artery. The renal arteries from the ipsilateral internal iliac artery and the contralateral common iliac artery supplied the medial half of the pelvic kidney. In the present case, the blood supply from both the right and left sides appeared to be related to the medial position of the right pelvic kidney. As the incidence of unilateral renal ectopia is not extremely low, it is possible to encounter in a surgical or cancer treatment case. Variations in the positional anatomy of the kidney and its vascular supply are of clinical importance and our case illustrates a different kind of blood supply that a pelvic kidney may possess.

Notizen: Summary Anatomic variations are important in preendoscopic CT evaluation of the paranasal sinuses. In this study, we investigated whether the superior turbinate could become pneumatised like the middle turbinate, pneumatisation of which is well-known. Images of 52 patients who underwent CT examination prior to endoscopic sinus surgery and who had normally aerated posterior ethmoidal cells and an unobscured nasal cavity were retrospectively evaluated. The patients were 12–68 years old (median age, 35 years); 28 were women and 24 were men. Pneumatisation of the superior turbinates was graded in two groups as minimal or marked. Pneumatisation was evident in 25 patients (48%). 13 unilateral (25%), 8 bilateral (15%) pneumatisations were detected in the group graded as minimal, whereas 1 unilateral and 3 bilateral pneumatisations were present in the markedly (8%) pneumatised group of patients. Superior turbinates were seemingly aerated through the posterior ethmoid cells. The superior turbinates can be pneumatised as the middle turbinate is a not frequent anatomic variation that should be taken into account in preendoscopic CT evaluation of the paranasal sinuses.

Notizen: Abstract Behçet's disease is a multisystem disorder characterized by recurrent orogenital ulcerations and uveitis. Vascular involvement can include both arteries and veins, with a preponderance of venous lesions. Aneurysms of splanchnic arteries due to Behçet' s disease have been rarely reported. We present an unusual case of superior mesenteric artery aneurysm due to Behçet's disease diagnosed by ultrasonography and angiography.

Notizen: Abstract Eighty-three beta-thalassemic patients, aged 1.5–19 years, were prospectively studied for evidence of gallbladder pathology by real-time, high-resolution ultrasound. Cholelithiasis was present in 7 patients (8.4%). Sludge, a clinical entity that, when it persists, can be a predisposing factor for cholelithiasis and cholecystitis, was detected in 29 patients (34.9%). Prevalence of sludge to this extent has not been reported in the literature and we believe this is due to better technology offered by modern ultrasound equipment. Pseudo-sludge, a condition that is created by a beam averaging effect (partial-volume phenomenon), at the diverging portion of the ultrasound beam, has alway been confusing and a source of difficulties in the ultrasound examination of the gallbladder. For the first time, a method is described, to easily differentiate between true sludge and pseudo-sludge.

Notizen: Abstract The technique of digital splenoportography with thin flexible needles and small amounts of dilute contrast medium is described as one particularly suitable for use in paediatric patients. The authors report a high incidence of spontaneous splenorenal shunting revealed in their patients by this technique.

Notizen: Abstract A 16-year-old boy with the complaints of fever, abdominal pain, arthralgia and hypertension was found to have polyarteritis nodosa. Selective renal angiography disclosed a 5-mm microaneurysm of the right inferior suprarenal artery, which has not been previously reported in polyarteritis nodosa. Aside from the diagnostic viewpoint, some of the perirenal and retroperitoneal hemorrhages of unknown origin seen in polyarteritis nodosa might be due to the rupture of suprarenal artery aneurysms.
