Notizen: Abstract Given two systems, one governed by a partial differential equation of a parabolic type and the other governed by a partial differential equation of a hyperbolic type, a cost functional is defined. For each system, an inequality is derived. From these inequalities, lower bounds on the cost functional can be estimated.

Notizen: Abstract A two-dimensional random motion of a point is dealt with. The point velocity (v cos ϑ,v sin ϑ) is subjected to two different kinds of perturbations, the first represented by a vector of independent standard Wiener processes and the second by a generalized type of Poisson process. The control function is ϑ, whilev is kept fixed. We assume given a configuration ofn+1 target sets,A 0,...,A n , in the plane, all of these sets being surrounded by an open and bounded setD. We denote by ℙ x (ℙ(ϑ)∈A i the probability thatX t , the location of the point, whereX 0=x∈D, will reach the setA i beforeX i reaches any other setA j ,i≠j, and before it leavesD. The problem dealt with here is to find an optimal control law ϑ*, ϑ*=ϑ*(x),x∈D, such that the function $$V\left( {x;\theta } \right) = \sum\limits_{i = 0}^n {\lambda _i \mathbb{P}_x \left( {X_\tau \left( \theta \right) \in A_i } \right),}$$ where λ1,i=0,...,n, are given nonnegative numbers, will be maximized on a given class of admissible control laws. Sufficient conditions on optimal controls, of a dynamic programming type, are derived. These conditions require the existence of a smooth solution to a nonlinear partial integrodifferential equation, which is solved here by applying a finite-difference scheme. Two examples are dealt with numerically.

Notizen: Abstract Stochastic pursuit-evasion differential games involving two players moving in the (x,y,z)-space are considered. A study is conducted of the roles of the pursuer's maneuverability and of information structure restrictions imposed on the pursuer's field of view or on the magnitude of the pursuer's line-of-sight rate vector, with respect to the outcome of the encounter.

Notizen: Abstract Four stochastic pursuit-evasion differential games involving two players, P and E, moving in the plane are considered. The difference between the games lies in their information structures. In each of the games, sufficient conditions on optimal feedback strategies, in the cases of complete information, and on weak optimal feedback strategies, in the cases of incomplete information, are derived. Optimal strategies are computed for the cases of complete information and weak suboptimal strategies for the cases of incomplete information. The results indicate that the correct measurement of the direction of the segment PE is more important than the measurement of the distance (P, E).

Notizen: Abstract We consider pursuit-evasion differential games in the plane in which the players, i.e., the pursuer and the evader, have simple motion and are pedestrians à la Isaacs. Two information patterns are considered, namely the classical feedback strategy and the stroboscopic pursuit strategy; loosely speaking, the latter incorporates the instantaneous control employed by the evader, which we assume to be known to the pursuer. Within this framework, the question of modelling a pursuit-evasion encounter is addressed, and we examine three well-known guidance schemes of the line-of-sight, collision course, and proportional navigation types.

Notizen: Abstract The problem of the optimal evasion from a pursuer employing proportional navigation guidance is considered. Thus, we consider the problem of maximizing the time-to-capture when the problem parameters, namely, the speed ratio and the proportional navigation constant, are such that capturability of the evader is guaranteed.

Notizen: Abstract A stochastic pursuit-evasion differential game involving two players, E and P, moving in the plane is considered. It is assumed that player E (the evader) has complete observation of the position and velocity of player P, whereas player P (the pursuer) can measure the distanced (P, E) between P and E but receives noise-corrupted measurements of the bearing β of E from P. Three cases are dealt with: (a) using the noise-corrupted measurements of β, player P applies the proportional navigation guidance law; (b) P has complete observation ofd (P, E) and β (this case is treated for the sake of completeness); (c) using the noise-corrupted measurements of β, P applies an erroneous line-of sight guidance law. For each of the cases, sufficient conditions on optimal strategies are derived. In each of the cases, these conditions require the solution of a nonlinear partial differential equation on a in ℝ2. Finally, optimal strategies are computed by solving the corresponding equations numerically.

Notizen: Abstract A stochastic version of Isaacs's (Ref. 1) game of two cars is dealt with here. In this version, the pursuer, owing to thrust and drag forces, has a variable speed, whereas the evader's speed is constant. Also, the pursuer can maneuver as long as his speed is bounded by some lower and upper limits. The probability of interception, corresponding to optimal (saddle-point) feedback strategies, is computed and serves as a reference for evaluating the performance of four different versions of the proportional navigation pursuit law as well as two other strategies.
