    Notes: The lines of Blaschko represent one of the cutaneous patterns of mosaicism followed by various skin disorders. Developmental abnormalities affecting other tissues derived from the embryonic ectoderm and mesoderm are occasionally associated. We describe a 30-year-old man with depigmented, bilateral hypertrichosis and dilated follicular orifices following Blaschko’s lines associated with cerebral and ocular malformations. The findings suggest a previously unreported neurocutaneous, autosomal lethal gene syndrome from the group of epidermal naevus syndromes.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird über Aktivität und Verteilung der β-Glucuronidase, β-Galaktosidase, β-Glucosidase und Arylsulfatase in 49 Gliomen berichtet. Die höchste Aktivität in den Tumorzellen weisen die Glykosidasen auf. Mit zunehmender Malignität der Tumorart ist eine Zunahme der Glykosidasenreaktion festzustellen. Alle untersuchten Enzyme sind infolge Diffusion in zerfallenden Markscheiden und ihren Fragmenten nachweisbar.
    Notes: Summary Activities and distribution patterns of β-glucuronidase, β-galactosidase, β-glucosidase and arylsulfatase were demonstrated histochemically in 49 gliomas. The activities of the glycosidases were higher than that of the sulfatase, and also higher in malignant tumors than in benign ones. The enzymes tested are seen within damaged and disintegrating portions of the myelin sheath.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung 1. Es wird über den histochemischen Nachweis von oxydativen Fermenten (LDH, DPNH-D, GPDH, GDH, ADH, IDH (TPN), TPNH-D., IDH (TPN), SDH, Cytochromoxydase) in Gliomen berichtet, deren Reaktionsintensität in der angegebenen Reihenfolge abnimmt. 2. Cytochromoxydase war im Gegensatz zu den übrigen Fermenten nur in Oligodendrogliomen und Glioblastomen, nicht in Astrocytomen nachweisbar. 3. In Nekrosen war keine Fermentaktivität nachweisbar. 4. Die Fermentnachweise in proliferierenden Gefäßen fallen stark positiv aus. 5. Die Befunde werden mit biochemischen und histochemischen Mitteilungen anderer Autoren verglichen. Eine sichere Unterscheidung zwischen Tumorzellen und normalen Zellen ist durch das histochemisch nachweisbare qualitative Verteilungsmuster der oxydativen Fermente nicht möglich.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1. 3 Std bis 10 Wochen nach Durchtrennung des Nervus ischiadicus der Ratte wurde das Verhalten der Enzyme Lactatdehydrogenase, Succinodehydrogenase, Aldolase, β-D-Galactosidase, β-D-Glucuronidase und β-D-Glucosidase mit histochemischen Methoden geprüft. 2. LDH, SDH und Aldolase treten bereits nach 3 Std in den verdickten Axonen und später auch in den Schwannschen Zellen auf. 3. Von den enzymreichen Axonverdickungen gehen die Regenerationsvorgänge aus. Die neugebildeten Axone enthalten ebenfalls reichlich LDH, SDH und Aldolase. Mit Fortschreiten der Regeneration nimmt die Enzymaktivität in den Axonen wieder ab. Nach 10 Wochen entspricht sie der Norm. 4. Auch am distalen Segment kommt es zu einer kurzzeitigen Enzymvermehrung in den verdickten Axonen an der Durchschneidungsstelle. Doch sind bereits nach 4 Tagen in den zerfallenen Axonen keine LDH, SDH oder Aldolase mehr nachweisbar. Demgegenüber lassen sich in den sich um die Markscheidenreste anhäufenden Schwannschen Zellen diese Enzyme reichlich nachweisen. 5. Die Glykosidasen sind im proximalen und distalen Stumpf vor allem in den geschädigten und zerfallenden Markscheiden nachweisbar. Nach Abbau des Markscheidenmaterials des distalen Stumpfes sind sie dort nicht mehr zu beobachten. 6. Im Regenerationsgebiet waren die glykosidischen Enzyme vor allem in den eosinophilen Granulocyten und den neugebildeten Markscheiden nachweisbar. 7. Die Befunde wurden mit anderen histo- und biochemischen Untersuchungen verglichen. 8. Die Zunahme der LDH, SDH und Aldolase in den Axonen und Schwannschen Zellen wird als Ausdruck eines erhöhten Energieverbrauches angesehen. Den vermehrt auftretenden Glykosidasen wird dagegen eine entscheidende Rolle beim Abbau der Markscheiden zugeschrieben.
    Notes: Summary 1. The enzymes lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SHD), aldolase, β-D-galactosidase, β-D-glucuronidase and β-D-glucosidase were investigated histochemically at periods of three hours to 10 weeks following transection of the sciatic nerve in rats. 2. LDH, SDH and aldolase appear in the swollen axons within 3 hours and some what later also in the Schwann's cells. 3. Regenerative processes originate from axonal swellings with high contents of enzymes. Newly formed axons also contain LDH, SDH and aldolase abundantly. With progressing regeneration enzyme activity within the axon is falling and returns to normal within 10 weeks. 4. Enzymes are augmented also, but only transiently, in the thickened axons immediately distal to the site of the transsection. LDH, SDH and aldolase vanish from disintegrating axons within 4 days. In contrast, considerable enzyme activities can be located in the Schwann's cells surrounding the débris of myelin sheaths. 5. Glucosidases are seen predominantly within damaged and disintegrating myelin sheaths of the proximal and distal nerve ends. They are not visible any more when disintegration of the distal myelin sheaths is complete. 6. In the area of regeneration glucosidases were detectable mainly within eosinophilic granulocytes and newly formed myelin sheaths. 7. These observations were correlated with other histochemical and biochemical studies. 8. Increases of LDH-, SDH- and aldolase-activities of axons and Schwann's cells are thought to indicate an elevated energy consumption. A decisive rôle in disentegrating myelin sheaths is attributed to the glucosidases.
