Notizen: Abstract. Purpose: To determine the utility of high-resolution MR imaging for hepatocellular carcinoma. Materials and methods: High-resolution MR images with a 512 matrix in a right to left frequency encoding direction were obtained in 20 consecutive patients with known or suspected hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Six series of breath-hold images of the entire liver [T1- and T2-weighted fast spin echo sequences, T1-weighted fast low-angle shot gradient echo sequence and three-phased contrast-enhanced dynamic study using the latter) were obtained using a phased-array multicoil. Results: HCC was depicted in 15 patients on the MR images, and the diagnosis was confirmed at pathology in 13 and at imaging in the other two. In the remaining five patients, HCC was correctly ruled out with MR imaging. Conclusion: High-resolution MR imaging is a promising method in the evaluation of HCC.

Notizen: Abstract. We describe computed tomographic (CT) findings at the early stage of infected abdominal aortic aneurysm in three patients. Periaortic mass and increased fat density were the characteristic findings of early aortic infection on CT. Similar findings caused by other diseases may be difficult to differentiate by imaging alone, but these findings should be used to trigger close follow-up for patients with suspected infected abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Notizen: Abstract. The computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance appearance of pseudotumorous enlargement of the paracaval portion (PCP) of the caudate lobe of the liver are presented in two cirrhotic patients. The enlarged PCP was hyperattenuated on precontrast CT and hyperintense on T1-weighted images. The middle and right hepatic veins were displaced around the PCP. The presence of a portal vein branch penetrating the center of the enlarged PCP was important to distinguish it from other hepatic masses in the two patients.

Notizen: Abstract. We report a rare case of pseudomyxoma retroperitonei in a 58-year-old woman with a past history of severe appendicitis. The imaging showed a multicystic mass similar to pseudomyxoma peritonei, but the tumor was located in the retroperitoneal space.

Notizen: Abstract Patient W.S. (a 61-year-old woman) and patient T.M. (a 41-year-old man) developed recurrent fevers, polyarthritis, Raynaud's phenomenon and interstitial pulmonary fibrosis without apparent polymyositis. From HeLa cell extracts, sera from both patients immunoprecipitated all species of intact and deproteinised tRNAs. To identify the antibody binding site more precisely, tRNAs transcribed in vitro from clonedEscherichia coli tRNA genes and various mutants were prepared and used as antigens for immunoprecipitation. When the TψC loop, or the D loop were deleted, such mutants were not bound by both sera, suggesting that the D and TψC loops were required for antibody binding. Abrogation of tRNA binding occurred when18G of tRNATrp was replaced with18A to break the tertiary L-shape structure of tRNA. These results strongly suggest that sera from W.S. and T.M. recognise the tertiary conformation of L-shaped tRNA which is constructed with both D and TψC loops. These autoantibodies may also serve as a marker for a new subset of patients with connective tissue diseases that is distinct from anti-aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase syndrome.
